The Project Systems Engineer is responsible for assessing systems, determining problems, providing solutions to issues that arise, designing systems, upgrading systems, maintaining systems and brainstorming possible improvements that can be made to a system in the future. The AFNCR IT Services program provides support services for information systems for Headquarters Air Force (HAF), Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other Air Force activities within the AFNCR, missions to include the Pentagon, Joint Base Andrews (JBA), Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), and other locations, leased spaces, and alternate sites. The major support areas required are IT Operations and Maintenance; Plans, Projects, and Engineering (PP&E); and National Military Command Center (NMCC). Develop highly innovative Systems Engineering solutions to resolve complex problems involving limited and disparate information through application of technical knowledge, conceptualizing, reasoning and interpretation, and integration of best practices Create and maintain governance documentation to include Engineering plans, Diagrams, Sustainment and Test Plans. Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews as a part of the project life cycle when standing up and/or modifying new systems or existing environments. Design, diagram and deploy new applications and or applications enhancements, software and operating systems. Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools. Assess and perform server security audits and system vulnerabilities to ensure systems meet DOD security posture prior to Operational readiness. Conduct research and/or proof of concept on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts. Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel when needed on project solution and design. Coordinate, facilitate, and verify Systems Engineering projects across multiple environments. Conduct technical presentations for management and customer.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelors degree and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6+ years of prior relevant experience, additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree. Possess an active DoD Secret or higher clearance. Proven experience with systems design, systems planning and DOD system security principles. Ability to work independently or under generalized supervision with strong interpersonal and analytical skills Must be comfortable working on multiple systems and components simultaneously in various configurations. Be able to effectively plan and prioritize tasking and communicate clearly regarding technical options and trade-offs. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidate must, at a minimum, meet DoD 8570.11- IAT Level II certification requirements (currently Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, GSEC, or SSCP along with an appropriate computing environment (CE) certification).

Minimum 8 years' experience Engineering/Administering: Linux operating systems (RHEL 7, RHEL8, CentOS, Oracle Linux, Ubuntu, and/or Fedora)
- Experience with Bash, Ksh shell scripting, RedHat Satellite, Server patching and software package installs.
- Proven experience with applying various security standards (i.e. DISA STIGs, ACAS scans, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience in administering and maintaining Linux systems and applications.
- Understanding the management and configuration of SELinux and how it can affect application runtime and security.
- Understand network topology and its association with DNS, knowledge of how to partition disks using fdisk or gdisk and the use of basic LVM commands to create volume groups, logical volumes from physical volumes.
- Desired certifications: RHCSA, RHCE.
VMWare (virtualization products)
- Experience with standing up ESXi hosts, various versions, AD integrations, time, and DNS services.
- Experience with vCenter 7 & 8; ESXi 7 & 8 and security requirements. ESXi 7 & 8 STIGs, SRGs and certificate requirements.
- Experience with designing and implementing VMware virtual infrastructure solutions, including scalability and high availability considerations.
- Proven experience on planning, testing and conducting server migrations, utilize performance optimization tools like vRealize, monitoring and forecasting tools like vROPS.
- Desired Certifications: VCP, VCAP, VCIX.
Enterprise Networks
- Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP).
- Knowledge of routing protocols, network services (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, WAN, VPN, VLAN, VRF, etc.)
- Experience with LAN/WAN setup, TCP/IP protocol, routing/switching, load balancers, subnets, configurations, and firewall technologies.
- Desired certifications: CCNP,
Windows operating systems (2016,2019 & 2022, M365, Sharepoint)
- Strong experience in management of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, File/Print, Group Policies and Powershell scripting.
- Experience managing IIS, PostGres and SQL databases.
- Experience with DISA STIGs, Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP), STIG Viewer, Open SCAP
- Windows certifications highly desirable.
Storage Area Networks
- SAN administration including provisioning of LUNs, management of storage pools, fiber channel zoning, storage monitoring and performance tuning.
- Experience with EMC storage, Cisco SAN switches, Avamar, Data Domain.
- Experience with DFS (Distributed File System), NFS (Network File System) and NAS (Network Attached Storage).
- EMC storage certifications highly desirable.
