Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site periodically and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes - Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Regional Manager team, works directly with mayors, county executives, city councils, managers and appointed officials to ensure positive support of the company's legislative, operational, and community interests. Supports company and local government initiatives that focus corporate resources and activities on the company's business success and the wellbeing of customers, shareholders and employees. Coordinates community activities. Span of control: 0; individual contributor.

Key Accountabilities
  • Supports the company's lobbying efforts on local legislation activities in counties, cities, townships and villages and assists with the company's state and federal lobbying efforts
  • Represents the company at counties, cities, townships and villages to promote and/or protect company interests in all areas (e.g., electric power generation and transmission, gas production and distribution, nuclear operations, environmental concerns, taxes, media and public relations), under the guidance of the assigned Regional Manager
  • Recognizes competitive threats to corporate operations (e.g., franchise infringement, municipalization, and deregulation) and takes early action to diffuse or resolve issues
  • Obtains franchises through the local legislative or election processes in all communities throughout company service areas where approved franchises are critical to company interests
  • Supports the EdPAC and Foundation recruitment activities and attends events for the company
  • Supports business units in working with municipalities to gain support for company infrastructure projects and supports maintenance of stakeholder data base
  • Supports company associated community activities and volunteer efforts that align with DTE's municipal stakeholder strategies.
  • Communicates the company's concerns to the communities and shares communities' concerns with the company
  • Coordinates activities with other community support organizations on behalf of the company
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

This is a dual-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following two options:

  • Bachelor's degree with three years managing external relationships, inclusive of two years managing relationships with company/industry stakeholders; or
  • Bachelor's degree with four years of experience working with local community and government activities/officials
Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in business, political science, liberal arts, science or engineering

Other Requirements

  • Strong problem solving and negotiations skills, including ability to resolve issues in a confrontational atmosphere
  • Demonstrated success in managing relationships with key stakeholders
  • Leadership skills, both with internal and external groups
  • Strong knowledge of power plant, electric and gas transmission, and distribution and gas compressor station operations
