JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a qualified, motivated Research Technologist - Medical Sciences to join a talented research team focusing on developmental therapeutic studies to identify and validate potential drugs for treatment of hematologic malignancies. Incumbent will develop and maintain patient derived xenograft models of disease to explore therapeutic interventions. Candidate will be expected to work on the above independently and/or with senior investigators. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and ambitious to learn. This person needs to be detail oriented and follow SOPs and experimental plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Execution of experiments, data analysis, record keeping, ordering lab supplies, preparation, and management of IACUC and IRB protocols, etc.
  • Preparation of SOPs for various activities in the lab.
  • Generation of Patient Derived Xenografts, isolation of peripheral blood, bone marrow and spleen cells and assist in downstream analyses.
  • Cryopreservation and PDX samples, PDX database management and sample retrieval.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and certifications.
  • Maintain inventory of raw materials, buffers, and reagents.
  • Candidate will be expected to work on the above independently and/or with senior investigators.
  • Handle mice breeding and colony management.
  • Perform common assays like Western Blot and cell proliferation.
  • Maintain cell culture.
  • Participate in troubleshooting processes.
  • Complete projects by assisting the project team; attend and participate in team, department, and all-hands meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) or Masters in related science field required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This position will be filled at an Professional or Intermediate Professional depending on the candidate's experience and education.
  • Hands on experience with animal husbandry, breeding, drug administration (IP, IV, SC, IM, IF, oral gavage), necropsy, bleeding, data collection, and interacting with veterinary staff in animal facility required
  • Strong knowledge of multicolor flow and data analysis is desired
  • Knowledge of primary cell culture techniques and database, cytotoxicity assay, colony formation assay, drug combination studies and analysis is desired.
  • Must be willing to work occasional weekends, and holidays.

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 - $55,500.00
