If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our innovative team at APL! Our team of ambitious and enthusiastic engineers is growing! We contribute to the research and development of creative solutions to challenges of national importance.

Our team specializes in software and hardware reverse engineering, vulnerability research, and developing proof-of-concept offensive cyber capabilities with a focus on embedded systems. We have custom facilities tailored to specific classes of systems including vehicles, telecommunications/network infrastructure, and industrial systems as well as general reverse engineering labs.

As a member of our group, you will...

  • Develop exploits and build mission-aligned proof-of-concept capabilities
  • Collaborate with government sponsors and operators to ensure that capabilities can be deployed within operational constraints
  • Explore novel techniques for automating reverse engineering and exploit development
  • Propose groundbreaking ideas for internal and external funding opportunities
  • Share knowledge by clearly articulating ideas through papers and presentations to team members, APL management, and government decision makers

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant software engineering experience
  • Are a versatile programmer in several different languages including C/C++ and Python
  • Are excited to learn new programming languages, libraries, and frameworks
  • Are self-motivated to derive actionable tasks from high-level requirements and/or research concepts
  • Are proficient in modern software engineering practices (agile methods, continuous integration, unit testing, and version control)
  • Have interest in learning reverse engineering (RE) skills to support RE efforts and RE automation
  • Are willing to work with legacy systems and technology if needed
  • Hold an active TS/SCI+poly security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • Have demonstrated leadership experience
  • Are skilled with containerization technologies
  • Have experience with embedded systems development toolchains
  • Are familiar with reading and writing assembly
  • Are experienced with software debuggers and static analysis tools
  • Understand various web frameworks
  • Have familiarity with Layer-1 and Layer-2 protocols

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
