POSITION TITLE: Facilities Maintenance lead, Janitor, Driver

STATUS: Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40 HRS/Week

RATE: $20.00/HR

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:




  • High School diploma or GED



  • 1 years experience of custodial work

  • Must complete and adhere to child safety (Protecting the Mission) requirements and guidelines, including the ability to pass a TSA background check



  • Must abide by all policies and procedures as outlined in The Salvation Army Handbook.





SCOPE OF POSITION:

This position is responsible for the upkeep and minor maintenance/repair issues for the buildings, grounds & vehicles of the Bellingham Corps, Social Services/Food Bank, Quarters, and Camp Lummi. This position is responsible for ensuring that all facilities are clean and in order, responsible for weekly pickups for the food bank if needed.

Weekly Schedule:




  • Monday through Friday





ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Develop and follow a weekly and annual maintenance schedule



  • Keep the Corps clean and organized, including but not limited to: vacuuming; emptying trash; washing windows including partitions and frames; wiping mirrors and other glass surfaces; cleaning and organizing storage areas; dusting; washing floors, cleaning carpets; and cleaning chairs and other furnishings as necessary.



  • Clean all restrooms, including but not limited to: scrubbing toilet bowls; wiping down exterior of toilet; wiping down toilet stalls; disinfect faucets, toilet handles and door handles; wiping towel dispensers; clean sinks; ensuring toilet paper, paper towels and soap are stocked; sweeping and mopping floors; dumping out garbage and putting in clean liners; wiping down mirrors



  • Clean kitchen including but not limited to: wiping down surfaces; removing and shaking out kitchen mats; cleaning kitchen mats on Saturdays; sweeping and mopping floors; dumping out garbage and putting in clean liners



  • Clean and tidy the Chapel, including but not limited to: ensuring all trash is removed (e.g. old worship service programs); ensuring all Bibles and Song books are placed back in seat pockets; chairs are arranged



  • Keep ALL vehicles clean and ready for use. This includes: operating a maintenance schedule (oil changes, checkups); monitoring the state of the brakes and tires; washing the exterior; cleaning and vacuuming the interior; and keeping gas in the tanks (filling at least once per week).



  • Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and other items in preparation for programs that are being held on premises, as requested.



  • Maintain the facilities exteriors, including landscaping, lawn, parking lot, and walkways.



  • Perform all phases of building maintenance necessary to keep a safe environment for employees and all others using the facilities including but not limited to:






    • Maintaining walkways to ensure safety and usefulness



    • Maintain all electrical systems such as lights, ballast, outlets, switches, and circuit breakers.



    • Check all air filter properties and ensure they are replaced at least every 6 months.



    • With supervisor approval, work with admin aide to arrange for contracted maintenance when needed





  • Organize and maintain the Janitor's closet and Maintenance container, including all equipment



  • Inform the supervisor of any supply or equipment needs



  • If needed, pick up several weekly donations from the community and unload



  • Must report all accidents and incidents to the supervisor immediately.



  • All other duties as assigned


  • Driving Expectations: This person will need to drive all of our vehicles, which include:
    Mini Van
    Mini Bus
    Refrigerated Box Truck
    Riding Lawn Mower


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:




  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis



  • Ability to climb stairs



  • Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as boxes, tables, and reach overhead



  • Ability to operate the telephone



  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on a hard surface



  • Ability to work outdoors and remain productive during various weather conditions, including but not limited to heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.



  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. repetitively (usually garbage)



  • Ability to understand written information



  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, including a ride-on lawnmower



  • Ability to operate power tools and hand-held shop & gardening tools



  • Ability to work around, handle, and apply standard cleaning products, paints, and gardening chemicals (using basic safety materials such as gloves and mask)

A generous benefits package is included with full-time positions: paid holidays, vacation time, sick time, and medical, vision, and dental insurances.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums ($34.62) for employee only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside of a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance offered starting at $2.31 bi-weekly cost. Employees are covered by an employer paid life insurance policy. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee funded voluntary 403(b) options

Parental Leave: Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee's normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.

Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months' service time.

Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation eligible for use after 6 months' service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
