Department Summary

Data, Analytics & Institutional Research (DAIR) brings together institutional research, decision science, market intelligence, business intelligence and data governance to support evidence-informed decision-making across UNT.

Our mission is to provide trusted institutional intelligence that helps the university understand performance, anticipate change, make informed decisions and evaluate whether those decisions improve student and institutional outcomes.

DAIR serves as UNT's institutional authority for official data and reporting while also providing analytical capabilities that move beyond describing what happened. The team interprets institutional performance, identifies emerging risks and opportunities, develops predictive and forecasting models, provides market and competitive intelligence, and supports the evaluation of strategies and interventions.

Working in partnership across the university, DAIR develops and maintains trusted data products, institutional definitions, analytical models and business intelligence solutions that make information more reliable, accessible and reusable. Through strong data governance and quality assurance practices, DAIR helps ensure that institutional measures are consistently defined, validated and fit for decision-making.

DAIR's work is organized around a simple objective: move from data to evidence, from evidence to action, and from action to measurable impact. This includes supporting leaders in understanding what is happening, why it is happening, what may happen next, where action is possible, and whether that action produced the intended result.

The team also supports the development of institutional data literacy by helping faculty and staff understand, interpret and appropriately use data, analytics and analytical tools to address priority institutional questions.

Position Overview

This technical leadership position directs DAIR data management, data quality, master data management, institutional definitions and data stewardship. The Director oversees analytical data modelling, integration, validation, and business intelligence products that make university information reliable, accessible and usable. The role leads development of dashboards and data visualizations for faculty, institutional reporting and benchmarking, and guides DAIR requirements and quality assurance during modernization of SAS-based analytics to Microsoft Fabric or other approved tools. The Director supervises assigned staff, sets operational priorities, resolves data issues with institutional partners, and contributes to DAIR strategic planning and delivery. Training and user enablement support adoption of these products but are not the primary purpose of the position.
