Position Summary
We are currently seeking a Tactical Data Links Specialist II to support the configuration, integration, operation, testing, sustainment, and troubleshooting of Tactical Data Link (TDL) systems within a Department of Defense (DoD) laboratory and fleet test environment. This position supports Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) test events, tactical communications, and interoperability between combat systems requiring reliable and accurate exchange of tactical data across multiple platforms, networks, and mission systems.
This position is responsible for configuring, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Tactical Data Link processing systems, supporting network infrastructure, and associated hardware and software. The selected candidate will perform hands-on technical support across Link 16, Joint Range Extension Applications Protocol (JREAP), tactical IP networking, physical connectivity, and tactical message processing. Responsibilities include establishing and monitoring tactical data links, validating J-Series message exchange, diagnosing system and network connectivity issues, and supporting system integration and test execution.
The role requires practical hands-on experience with Tactical Data Link systems such as Command and Control Processor (C2P), Link Monitoring and Management Tool (LMMT), and JREAP, along with practical troubleshooting skills across physical hardware, networking, and host systems. Experience supporting Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense, Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC), Navy combat systems, Linux or Windows system administration, and DoD laboratory or fleet test environments is highly desired.
Responsibilities
- Configure, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot TDL processing systems, including C2P/NGC2P/C2PS, Command and Data Link Management System (CDLMS), and Tactical Network Processor (TNP)
- Establish, configure, monitor, and sustain tactical communications using Link 16, J-Series messages, JREAP-A, JREAP-B, and JREAP-C, utilizing tools such as LMMT, NSITE, and Data Link Test Tool (DLTT)
- Configure and troubleshoot tactical network connectivity using TCP/IP, UDP, VLANs, subnetting, static routing, multicast, and supporting network infrastructure to ensure reliable communications and system interoperability
- Diagnose end-to-end connectivity issues involving servers, network interface cards (NICs), fiber-optic and copper cabling, patch panels, transceivers, serial interfaces, host configurations, and tactical link processing
- Support BMD test events, fleet synthetic training, and system integration activities by establishing communications, monitoring system performance, validating J-Series message flow, and resolving interoperability issues between Aegis BMD, C2BMC, and supporting systems
- Perform basic system administration across Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows environments, including network interface configuration, service management, user administration, system logs, and host connectivity
- Investigate system and test anomalies, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and maintain accurate trouble reports, configuration baselines, technical procedures, and system documentation
- Coordinate with government engineers, system administrators, network engineers, combat systems personnel, and external sites to support hardware installations, equipment replacements, system integrations, and resolution of technical issues

- Working knowledge of Link 16, J-Series message processing, and JREAP protocols, particularly JREAP-C communications over IP networks
- Experience independently troubleshooting tactical communications and system connectivity issues involving server NICs, fiber-optic and copper cabling, patch panels, transceivers, network equipment, and other physical-layer infrastructure
- Functional understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, subnetting, static routing, VLANs, multicast, and network connectivity troubleshooting in support of tactical communications
- Experience supporting technical operations, system integration, troubleshooting, or test execution within a DoD, Navy, laboratory, fleet, or other mission-critical technical environment
- Ability to independently investigate technical problems, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, document troubleshooting results, and coordinate with other technical teams
