Project Scope

The Enterprise Reference Data Service is the authoritative source of truth for geographical, regulatory, and operational reference data across U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The team is building and maintaining a centralized, auditable platform using Java/Spring Boot microservices, bitemporal PostgreSQL data models, Liquibase migrations, Apache Kafka event streaming, and accessible USWDS-compliant Angular interfaces.

  • Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build and optimize data access layers, entity mappings, and database interactions using Spring Data JPA and PostgreSQL.
  • Implement bitemporal data models supporting historical auditing, point-in-time retrieval, and preservation of historical records.
  • Develop asynchronous event publishers using Apache Kafka and Apache Avro schemas for reliable downstream message delivery.
  • Develop responsive, accessible single-page applications using Angular and TypeScript.
  • Analyze requirements with technical and functional stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Maintain automated test suites using JUnit 5, Vitest, Playwright, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Write clean, efficient, maintainable, and documented code in accordance with software development best practices.
  • Troubleshoot defects, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Participate in peer code reviews and improve application architecture, code quality, and development practices.
  • Use Google Gemini and AI-assisted development workflows to accelerate feature development, code reviews, refactoring, and test generation.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Track development activities, defects, and user stories in Jira or similar tools.
  • Support releases, deployments, enhancements, and production maintenance.
  • Conduct live feature demonstrations and architectural walkthroughs covering APIs, the web portal, and Kafka event feeds for internal stakeholders, program leaders, and prospective downstream consumers.
  • Share technical guidance and knowledge with less experienced team members, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
