The Water/Wastewater Infrastructure Practice is seeking a CAD Technician in Salt Lake City, UT, to support a major, multi-year transportation improvement program in Utah.

The ideal candidate will operate under the direction of project managers, senior CAD Technician, and engineers as part of multidisciplinary teams delivering utility infrastructure associated with major transportation projects. The primary focus of this position is supporting the plan set development, modeling, coordination, and design of utility improvements, relocations, and conflict-resolution efforts for transportation clients utilizing Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD). The secondary focus for this position will be to serve a CAD Technician on a wide variety of water / wastewater infrastructure projects, including, but not limited to, water distribution and sanitary conveyance design (gravity and pumped systems); pump stations; reservoirs; utility relocation; and preparation of engineering and construction plans and exhibits

This position is expected to support a major design build transportation project with an anticipated duration of approximately 1-2 years. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-profile design-build effort with significant public impact. Continued employment beyond the project will be based on business needs and available work.

What You'll Do Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop utility design models and construction documents utilizing Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Prepare plan, profile, detail, and exhibit sheets for water, wastewater, stormwater, and utility relocation projects.
  • Develop and modify utility alignments, profiles, crossings, and construction details.
  • Support utility conflict identification and utility relocation design associated with roadway, highway, bridge, transit, and multimodal transportation projects.
  • Coordinate utility infrastructure designs with transportation engineering teams and project stakeholders.
  • Prepare utility coordination exhibits and utility relocation plan packages.
  • Revise project drawings and models based on client, utility owner, agency, and engineering review comments.
  • Create and maintain electronic project file structures and document management standards.
  • Support project quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Ensure compliance with agency, client, and OpenRoads Designer standards.
  • Manage multiple projects and competing priorities while maintaining schedule and quality expectations.
  • Mentor and support junior designers and CAD technicians.
What You Bring Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Experience developing utility infrastructure design and construction plan sets.
  • Familiarity with water distribution, wastewater collection, stormwater, and utility relocation projects.
  • Understanding of utility coordination requirements on transportation projects.
  • Ability to develop design deliverables independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant utility design, drafting, or infrastructure experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Computer Drafting, Civil Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting DOT, municipal, transit, or transportation agency projects.
  • Experience utilizing ProjectWise and Bentley design workflows.
  • Familiarity with utility conflict analysis and utility accommodation requirements.
  • Knowledge of utility owner standards and permitting processes.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines within large transportation corridors.
  • Experience integrating utility infrastructure into roadway and transportation design models.
