Position Summary
This Research Technician provides operational and research support for the Peanut Breeding Program within the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences under the direction of Dr. Nino Brown. The position works closely with researchers, graduate students, technicians, and student employees to support breeding and seed increase activities that advance program objectives.

The individual in this role supports all phases of peanut breeding and greenhouse research, including soil preparation, irrigation, fertilization, plant care, tissue sampling, cross-pollination, harvesting, and seed processing. The position helps maintain continuity of research operations at the Tifton Campus by providing hands-on technical support, supervising routine tasks, and contributing to the successful completion of breeding projects and related research goals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Good written and verbal skills.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Competency with crop management and agronomic principles
  • Competency with manual cross pollinations

  • Work in hot, humid conditions for extended periods
  • Lift 50lb items repeatedly

  • Coordinate routine greenhouse activities, including plant care, irrigation, fertilization, spraying, and environmental monitoring.
  • Assist with greenhouse and facility maintenance to ensure safe, effective, and productive research operations.
  • Prepare soils, planting materials, and growing environments to support breeding and seed increase activities.

  • Support peanut breeding research through tissue sampling, cross-pollination, data collection, and other laboratory and field-related activities.
  • Assist with harvesting, seed processing, and management of breeding populations and seed lots.
  • Contribute to the successful execution of breeding and seed increase projects by providing hands-on technical and operational support.
