Description MaineHealth Behavioral Health Professional - Clinical The Behavioral Health Clinician on the Children's and Adolescent Inpatient Units at Spring Harbor Hospital is a core member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, providing comprehensive clinical social work services to children and adolescents experiencing acute psychiatric illness, significant behavioral dysregulation, and complex psychosocial and family-system challenges. This is a high-acuity, clinically demanding position requiring sound clinical judgment, strong assessment and intervention skills, and the ability to navigate complex clinical dynamics. The Clinician provides direct therapeutic care, contributes to treatment planning and discharge coordination, and collaborates with families, interdisciplinary team members, and external systems, including child welfare, education, residential treatment, and community behavioral health providers. The clinical environment is fast-paced, unpredictable, and often challenging. Patients may present with significant risk to themselves or others, severe mood or thought disorders, complex trauma, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substantial family-system disruption. The Clinician must respond effectively to rapidly evolving clinical circumstances, manage competing priorities, navigate difficult conversations, and maintain a therapeutic, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate approach. This role requires comfort with clinical ambiguity, complex systems, and situations where there are no easy answers. For the right applicant, this position offers a meaningful opportunity to develop exceptional clinical judgment and therapeutic skills through direct experience with some of the most acute psychiatric presentations in child and adolescent behavioral healthcare. Continuing education, research opportunities, and multidisciplinary collaboration support ongoing professional growth. This role is best suited for a clinician who is adaptable, intellectually curious, and motivated by complex clinical work rather than a predictable, routine environment.
