Your Role on the Team Position Summary: As an ED Registration Rep. responsibilities include interviewing and gathering complete and accurate demographic data to complete the registration process efficiently and expeditiously. Follows EMTALA's regulations, not acting on insurance until the medical screening exam (MSE) is complete. Collects appropriate monies after the MSE is complete and obtains authorization for treatment and/or admission. Obtains appropriate signatures on all registration forms, and scans the appropriate forms. Completes insurance verification on accounts, and breaks down charts for the appropriate departments. Technical and Job Specific Skill: 1. Telephone Skills Must demonstrate hospital telephone etiquette by answering the phones promptly, courteously and by identifying department and self. 2. Policy/Procedures Is aware of and follows all hospital and department policies and procedures. 3. Teamwork Promotes positive co-worker relationships through teamwork and cooperation. Understands and supports the needs of individuals in other departments and promotes conflict resolution. Shares information, work knowledge and experience with co-workers, physicians, and students in a non-threatening manner. Offers assistance and promptly responds to requests. 4. Productivity Maintains high productivity and performs efficiently regardless of whether the work volume is high or low. Appropriately prioritizes work activities. Responds to difficult situations with self-control and a positive attitude. Makes decisions independently and knows when to ask for assistance. Exercises good judgement and arrives at sound decisions. 5. Department Specific - Interviews patient or patient's representative to obtain required identifying data for all the required fields (i.e., name, address, DOB, phone #, employment, emergency contact, etc...) Assigns appropriate rooms and accommodation codes based on the Nursing Station assignment. Performs transfers and discharges correctly and in a timely manner. Coordinates telephone contact to physicians or other facilities as necessary. 6. Medical Screening Exam (MSE) - After the Medical Screening Exam is complete, the insurance company is called to verify for authorization, co-pay amounts and eligibility. Updates the account to reflect the insurance information and documents in FUS notes all the information obtained from the insurance company. Immediately places a new face sheet on the chart with a copy of the insurance card for the ED physician. 7. Ice Single Account - Reviews all registrations through ICE Single Account for accuracy hour before the shift ends. Documents pertinent information in the FUS note system. 8. Registration Forms - Obtains signatures and information on all registration forms, and witnesses those forms appropriately. Hands out the Admission packet to all patients who are admissions and observation (23:59) patients prior to them going to the floor. 9. ED Distribution/Copying - After the ED Log has been complete, breakdown and distributes the chart. Copy all necessary documents, and reconciles all ED registrations against the ED log. Work on ONE DAY AT A TIME. Distributes ED chart to all the necessary departments in a timely manner. 10. Financial Obligations - Alerts appropriate personnel of cash accounts or monies due. Makes all attempts to collect any monies due (i.e., co-pays, deductibles, flat rates, etc...) Document in FUS any collections or attempts in RRDEP, and gives a face sheet to the Financial Counselor if needed. 11. Cash Drawer Policy - Adheres to proper cash collections, cash drawer, cash sheet, and receipt policy in accordance to the Hospital policy. Performs Cash In and Out policy and procedures at the beginning and end of each shift. Assigned person holds the cash drawer key at all times during their shift, and is responsible for the monies in that drawer while Cashed In, until the next shift arrives. 12. Training - Assists in the training of all new personnel and cross trains in PBX and in the Admitting department to effectively cover for breaks and lunches in PBX, and becomes efficient at assigning beds with correct accommodation codes and performing updates in Ice Single Account. 13.
