Job Description

The Senior Scientist will provide scientific and technical leadership in the development, optimization, and application of advanced reproductive and genome editing technologies in poultry species. This position is responsible for designing, executing, and managing research projects focused on the production of genetically modified cells, embryos, and birds while improving the efficiency of technology associated with the animal production. This position supports daily laboratory operations, research activities, and training efforts to ensure efficient, compliant, and high-quality research outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the coordination and execution of research projects across the laboratory
  • Perform daily laboratory maintenance and support ongoing research activities
  • Conduct molecular biology techniques including PCR, Western Blotting, real-time PCR, cell culture, cell medium preparation, DNA/RNA isolation
  • Perform genome editing in poultry cells and embryos
  • Perform culture of specialized poultry cells such as Primordial Germ Cells
  • Support animal care activities as needed and in accordance with approved protocols
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and compliance monitoring of standard operating procedures
  • Train and assist student workers in laboratory techniques and safety procedures
  • Summarizing study outcomes to form manuscripts

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master or PhD degree in biology, animal science, or another related field
  • Previous experience in poultry genome editing
  • Prior experience of working with poultry cells and animals
  • Prior experience of handling poultry primordial germ cells
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $60,944.00 - $112,320 per year

Grade: GGS 011
