Add to Favorite Jobs Email this Job Northwestern Pritzker School of Law invites applications for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Law, Clinical Associate Professor of Law, Clinical Professor of Law, Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor of Law, Visiting Clinical Associate Professor of Law, or Visiting Clinical Professor of Law for its Communication and Legal Reasoning and Common Law Reasoning programs. Northwestern Pritzker is an innovative, top-ranked institution that teaches students to meet the challenges of the complex, competitive, and changing legal and business worlds. Our students are academically exceptional and have strong interpersonal skills. Many students have substantial work experience. Faculty in CLR generally teach Communication and Legal Reasoning, the first-year legal analysis, writing, and research course for JD students. On occasion, faculty members teach Common Law Reasoning, which is a required legal analysis and writing course for international LLM students, and other writing courses in the upper division of the JD program and in the Master of Science in Law program. Faculty members in both programs teach approximately 30 students in for a full academic year; section numbers vary depending on the type of course. We seek applications from candidates with excellent academic records, outstanding writing and editing skills, and experiences that demonstrate their potential for excellence in classroom teaching. A successful applicant must have a JD degree and strong experience as an attorney; we prefer those applicants who have at least three years of practice experience, as well as those with prior teaching experience. We welcome applicants with expertise in teaching students whose first language is not English, applicants with expertise in teaching transactional drafting and/or other upper division writing courses, and applicants who have familiarity with generative AI practice tools. For full-time faculty, we plan for this appointment to be for a three-year contract with an expected start date in July 2027, with the potential for renewal to successive three-year contract terms. For visitors, we plan for one-year contracts at minimum, and we anticipate more openings in the 2027-28 year and beyond; visitors are welcome to apply for those positions should they enjoy their experience during 2026-27. The expected base pay based on rank is as follows: Clinical Assistant Professor: $115,000 - $120,000 Clinical Associate Professor: $120,000 - $125,000 Clinical Professor: $125,000 - $135,000 This base pay range is for a twelve-month academic appointment and is subject to negotiation. Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
