Position Summary The Operations Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day operations and upkeep of all camp property and housekeeping needs. They are responsible to provide pristine spaces to Pine Summit's guests in line with its mission and vision for Christian camping. They have a drive to promote craftsmanship, going above and beyond, and supporting healthy staff teams and workplace. As a manager, they will assist leadership in the overall mission by contributing to a professional Christian culture and encouraging the spiritual goals of guest groups and the development of staff under their care. Essential Functions Leadership and Administration
- Contribute to a camp culture that reflects the mission, vision, and values of The Salvation Army.
- Encourage the professional growth of staff under your care.
- Responsible for the appropriate training, scheduling, and supervision of all operations staff.
- Lead by example to promote excellent teamwork, safety first principles, and exceptional guest service.
- Ensure that all work areas and storage areas meet safety and cleanliness standards, including local regulations, ACA/CCCA standards, and The Salvation Army policies.
- Maintain and keep accurate records for inventory, training, and inspections.
- Work with Guest Relations to ensure camp readiness for group arrivals.
- Manage and assign staff to tasks according to priorities for camp usage, safety, and maintenance.
Facilities and Operations
- Actively support camp operations through hands on work. Priorities for the OM may vairy seasonally but are typically 50/50 administration and fields work. Operations related tasks may include but are not limited to the following:
- Trash Runs, clean and set-up rooms, move furniture & sound equipment.
- Assist in housekeeping to clean camp lodging for guest group usage.
- Landscaping - mowing lawns, leaf blowing, weed whacking, tree trimming, etc...
- Minor repairs - plumbing, building, equipment, facilities
- Operate some equipment such as mower and wood splitter, in safe and efficient manner.
- Routinely inspect interior and exterior of facilities and grounds to ensure the highest standards are being met according to local regulations, camp standard operating procedures, and TSA policies.
- Routinely inspect operations equipment and vehicles to ensure proper use and care.
- Responsible for maintaining inventories and seeking approval for the purchase of new equipment needed.
- Possess the strength and stamina to remain alert, friendly, courteous, and patient for the duration of the staff member's time on the job.
- Perform all duties in accordance with camp policy and procedures, risk management guidelines, and American Camp Association accreditation standards.
Guest Service and Dining
- Assist in hosting and leading activities while groups are on site.
- Assist in kitchen work when assigned. This may include dishes, helping with trash, etc.,
Working Conditions Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. BA preferred or a combination of education, training and experience.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities, camper and staff behavior.
- Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing or walking for long periods of time (4 hours or more).
- Ability to lift 75 pounds or more; ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis as needed to perform necessary duties.
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol and organizational structure.
- Must have ability to work well independently in a detailed, professional and courteous manner.
- Friendly and personable. Excellent customer service skills required.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- A team player must work well with others.
- Experience in supervision of staff.
- Must have good communication skills and pay close attention to detail.
- Word processing experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel are especially valuable.
- Possess a valid CA driver's license.
