Job Summary

Providing expertise and oversight to Georgia Tech's enterprise-level media relations efforts, engaging with national, international, and local media to advance Georgia Tech's strategic initiatives in the form of media placements and external media opportunities. Proactive and reactive pitching of research and campus events to top-tier media to increase Georgia Tech's share of voice in print and broadcast media. Key advisor managing Georgia Tech's vendor relationships and strategic use of podcasting and external media reporting, including regular contact with contracted partners to best utilize tools that aid in Georgia Tech's external outreach efforts.

This position will interact on a regular basis: Senior Staff, Leadership, Communicators from across campus, members of the media ranging from international and national to local and across print and broadcast spectrums. Professor and senior researchers involved in strategic efforts with global implications

This position typically will advise and counsel: Campus communicators, professors at all levels with time-sensitive or impactful research, research scientists, and staff with specific expertise including economic impact, entrepreneurship, public health, and innovation

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Pitching Georgia Tech research and campus events to national, international, and local media

Job Duty 2 -
Writing stories that reflect and enhance Georgia Tech's external outreach efforts

Job Duty 3 -
Identifying timely and high-value topics and experts to connect with associated media, in direct effort to amplify Georgia Tech's share of voice nationally

Job Duty 4 -
Manage implementation and optimization of Georgia Tech's expert hub website, a key tool for connecting with media and earning placements

Job Duty 5 -
Oversee podcasting outreach and expert placement strategies at the enterprise level

Job Duty 6 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Five to seven years of job-related experience. Ideal applicants should have 5-7 years of job-related experience, including external media operations and best practices. National media experience is required, and connections with national media are strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience pitching and developing visually driven story concepts while managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Proven ability to shoot broadcast-quality video on DSLR, Blackmagic, mirrorless platforms and deliver timely edits using Premiere Pro. DaVinci Resolve experience a plus.

Video storytelling and storyboarding aligned with institutional mission

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail and editorial accuracy

Advanced digital literacy, including online research, data entry, and content management

Proficiency in both Mac and Windows operating systems

Familiarity with media monitoring and journalist database tools

Ability to analyze and report on basic performance metrics and digital engagement data

Proposed Salary

Proposed Salary: $65,202.00 - $103,000. Commensurate with education and experience

Skills

Computer knowledge: search for data, input/edit information, word processing
Software knowledge: Macintosh/Windows, Excel, Photoshop, MS Word, PowerPoint, Mercury/Drupal content management systems, and Meltwater
Knowledge of national and international media structures
Writing press releases and media pitches.
Familiarity with podcasting
Basic web maintenance and content management
Strong organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
