THE POSITION

As a Legislative Aide within the Government Relations Office, you will help guide the flow of information that supports major policy decisions. This role allows you to work closely with experts who evaluate laws that affect statewide services. You will gain valuable experience in research, legislative review, and communication. This is an excellent opportunity to take part in meaningful work that influences essential public programs.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the review and communication of legislative information that affects Department programs. Work involves research, evaluation, and coordination with staff and legislative partners. As a Legislative Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Legislative Research: Draft responses and research inquiries from legislative offices
  • Bill Analysis: Review proposed and current legislation to determine fiscal, program, or legal impact
  • Policy Support: Assist in drafting bills and relay information to the Governor's Legislative Office
  • Legislation Monitoring: Track bills related to Department programs and education
  • Information Coordination: Compile legislative comments from program offices and prepare summaries
  • Communication Tasks: Help maintain contact with House and Senate offices and assist with testimony preparation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report to the office a minimum of 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of governmental experience, including one year of work directly related to legislative analysis; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
