Position Highlights

The Santa Cruz County Cooperative Extension Office is seeking multiple enthusiastic and organized individuals to fill the position of Childcare Provider.

The Childcare Provider creates a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children ages 0-5 while parents participate in educational programs and services at Family Resource Centers. This position supports children's social, emotional, and developmental growth through age-appropriate activities, attentive supervision, and positive interactions. The Childcare Provider promotes a welcoming atmosphere for families, ensures the safety and well-being of all children in care, and assists with maintaining a clean, organized, and developmentally supportive childcare environment.

Hours may fluctuate depending on workload.

The positions will be located in Nogales, Patagonia, and Rio Rico Family Resource Centers. Program sessions are typically 8 weekly sessions throughout the year.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide continuous supervision of children in a Family Resource Center setting, ensuring a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.
  • Monitor children's well-being, maintain visibility of children at all times, follow established safety procedures, and communicate concerns to appropriate staff and parents as needed.
  • Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities that encourage learning, creativity, exploration, social interaction, and problem-solving.
  • Foster positive relationships with children while supporting developmental milestones through play-based and interactive experiences.
  • Prepare childcare spaces and materials before activities and maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  • Clean and disinfect toys and equipment, monitor supplies, maintain attendance records and sign-in sheets, and notify staff regarding facility or material needs.
  • Assist with children's personal care needs, including supporting proper hygiene practices and communicating care-related needs to parents or guardians.
  • Observe and document behavioral or wellness concerns and share information with Family Resource Center staff when appropriate.
  • Maintain required certifications, including CPR and First Aid, and complete all required training and professional development activities.
  • Follow program policies, health and safety standards, and confidentiality requirements to support high-quality service delivery.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of early childhood development principles and age-appropriate practices for children ages 0-5.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with children, parents, families, and program staff.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and responsive in fast-paced childcare environments.
  • Skill in organizing materials, maintaining clean environments, and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, sit on the floor, lift age-appropriate childcare materials, and actively engage with young children throughout the workday.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Familiarity with Family Resource Center, community-based, educational, or early childhood program environments.
  • Experience with child development, preschool learning, or family support programs.
