Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist II to join our Patient Service Center (PSC) team in Asheville, NC. The selected candidate will perform blood collection and specimen processing for patients of all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric, while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, specimen integrity, and laboratory compliance. This role requires strong venipuncture skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Collect blood and other specimens (urine, fecal, etc.) following established laboratory procedures.
  • Accurately label, centrifuge, split, freeze, store, and package specimens for transport.
  • Verify laboratory requisitions and specimen labels to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Maintain specimen integrity by following proper storage temperatures and transport protocols.
  • Clearly explain specimen collection procedures to patients in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, decontamination, and maintenance recordkeeping.
  • Understand and follow physician orders and laboratory testing requirements.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory results as appropriate.
  • Adhere to OSHA, DEP, and laboratory safety regulations.
  • Participate in required annual department training.


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience in a fast-paced laboratory, hospital, or patient service center.
  • Experience performing venipuncture independently on pediatric through geriatric patients.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification (where required by state).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Pediatric phlebotomy experience is highly preferred.
  • 2+ years of related phlebotomy experience.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented clinical environment.
