Commercial Interior Design Specialist

This is a 12-month, full-time (40 hours/week), hybrid contract-to-hire role located in Vancouver, WA. Team members are expected to work on-site Tuesday through Thursday and must reside within a 51-mile radius of the work location.

Summary

This role supports the development and delivery of design standards for a portfolio of commercial facilities. Working within a highly collaborative team following a recent reorganization, the Commercial Interior Design Specialist will help establish processes from the ground up and contribute across the full facilities asset lifecycle, from early concepts and design development through construction, operations, and maintenance.

The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating ambiguity, can interpret construction products and materials, and brings a thoughtful, program-oriented approach to deliverables. This is an opportunity for an early-career designer to apply commercial interior design knowledge while helping shape consistent, scalable standards for a large facilities portfolio.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 1-3 years of experience in commercial interior design, interior architecture, facilities design, architectural design, construction documentation, or a related field

  • Passion for creating functional, welcoming commercial environments, with a strong foundation in interior design, space planning, materials, finishes, and construction documentation

  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, construction documents, specifications, engineering notes, and product or material information

  • Familiar with building codes, accessibility requirements, and permitting processes, or able to research and apply these requirements

  • Comfortable helping establish new processes, standards, and ways of working in an evolving, post-reorganization environment

  • Capable of organizing and managing a program of deliverables across the full facilities lifecycle, from concept through maintenance

  • Skilled in collaborating with designers, architects, construction partners, facilities teams, operational leaders, and other cross-functional contributors

  • Able to work independently and manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously

  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, timelines, and stakeholders

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail

  • Proficiency with design and documentation tools; AutoCAD experience is helpful but not the primary focus of the role

  • Familiarity with Bluebeam is helpful but not required; training can be provided

  • Experience in hospitality, retail, healthcare, veterinary, or other commercial environments is preferred

  • Thoughtful, collaborative, action-oriented, and able to work within a culture guided by principles of quality, responsibility, mutual benefit, efficiency, and freedom

Job Description

In this role, you will support the creation, refinement, and implementation of design standards for a portfolio of commercial facilities. You will review and develop drawings, evaluate products and materials, interpret construction documentation, and help ensure designs align with established facility standards, applicable building codes, and accessibility requirements.

You'll partner with internal design, construction, facilities, and operations teams, along with external architects and other project contributors, to deliver accurate and practical design solutions. This includes developing or revising drawings, reviewing construction drawings and addenda, interpreting architectural and engineering information, documenting standards, tracking deliverables, and providing clear project updates.

You will also help establish repeatable processes and resources for a growing facilities asset program. Your work will support projects across the full lifecycle, from concept and design development through construction, ongoing operations, and maintenance. The role is primarily deliverables-based and requires strong collaboration, sound judgment, and comfort working through ambiguity.

Education and Experience

  • Associate, bachelor's, or certificate-level education in commercial interior design, interior architecture, drafting technology, computer-aided design, architecture, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and practical experience

  • 1-3 years of relevant professional experience; strong school, internship, or practice projects may also be considered

  • Background in commercial interiors such as hospitality, retail, healthcare, veterinary, workplace, or other public-facing environments is preferred

  • Residential design experience may be considered when paired with demonstrated knowledge of commercial materials, documentation, codes, accessibility, and project requirements

  • A portfolio is required and may include drawings, mock projects, completed professional work, or relevant academic projects that demonstrate the candidate's process and capabilities

The pay for this W-2 position is between $33.00-$39.00 per hour. This position may be eligible for PTO, health and dental insurance, and/or 401(k) benefits upon meeting certain length of service and hours requirements.
