Position Summary

Job Summary:

The Shift Lead Materials serves as the operational leader for the assigned shift by coordinating daily material flow activities while providing technical guidance, work direction, and leadership to the material flow team. This position supports production priorities by ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely movement of materials throughout the facility. The Materials Team Lead remains a working leader, performing material handling responsibilities while mentoring team members, promoting standard work, and serving as the primary point of contact for day-to-day operational decisions.

Responsibilities

Job Duties:

  • Coordinates daily work assignments and material flow priorities for the assigned shift.
  • Provides work direction and technical guidance to Material Handlers.
  • Prioritizes production support activities to ensure material is delivered to manufacturing on time.
  • Coordinates receiving, put away, inventory movement, shipping preparation, and order kitting activities.
  • Serves as the first point of contact for operational issues and escalates concerns as appropriate.
  • Assists with labor balancing and workflow adjustments to meet changing business priorities.
  • Monitors inventory accuracy and ensures proper MRP transactions are completed.
  • Leads cycle counts and inventory discrepancy investigations.
  • Assists with physical inventory activities.
  • Trains, mentors, and develops material flow team members.
  • Provides performance observations and developmental feedback to the Materials Supervisor.
  • Promotes compliance with safety, quality, and standard work requirements.
  • Supports Lean initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Leads Material Flow TIB and drives key performance metric improvements.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in all department skills and responsibilities and performs material handling duties as operational needs require.

  • Coaching & Team Development: Develops team capability through coaching, mentoring, cross-training, and constructive feedback while fostering accountability and teamwork.
  • Decision-Making: Exercises sound judgment to prioritize production support, receiving, shipping, inventory movement, and changing business demands.
  • Operational Excellence: Demonstrates advanced knowledge of material flow, inventory control, warehouse systems, and standardized processes while driving operational consistency.
  • Continuous Improvement: Leads or participates in Lean and Kaizen initiatives while identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality, delivery, inventory accuracy, and productivity.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Builds effective working relationships across Production, Planning, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to support business objectives.


Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years in material handling and shipping/receiving experience.
  • Strong knowledge of MRP, warehouse management systems (WMS), and shipping software systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching ability.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control, shipping, receiving, and production support.

Health/Safety Requirements:

  • Must adhere to proper materials handling procedures using personal protective equipment which will include, but is not limited to, protective eye wear, gloves, and hair/beard nets.
  • Must maintain a high level of health and safety standards.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position works in a manufacturing and warehouse environment requiring regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling materials. Frequent use of forklifts, pallet jacks, scanners, and warehouse equipment is required. The team member may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and is expected to safely operate material handling equipment while adhering to all Parker safety policies and PPE requirements.

Other Requirements:

  • May occasionally work in and out of a clean room environment.
  • May require overtime hours on weekdays or weekends, when applicable and planned for.
  • Requires team member to be flexible in cross-training and developing skills to assist in all areas of the department.
