JOB ANNOUNCEMENT PROJECTS ADMINISTRATOR CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENT Securing the City The Securing the City project is a major municipal program managed by the Chicago Fire Department (CFD). This project provides specialized training, equipment, and medical response units to protect the city. Number of Vacancies: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting annual salary: $91,788.00 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59 pm Central time on 07/31/2026. The Chicago Fire Department is seeking a Projects Administrator. This role is managerial in nature and accountable for senior manager level functioning. This role will be responsible for managing large scale projects and programs ensuring progress of projects and the accomplishment of key objectives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Manage and direct a major and large-scale program or project of significant size and scope in terms of budget, operations and/or staffing * Manage professional staff and direct the functions and operations of an organizational section or unit; establish and implement policies and procedures relating to section's objectives * Correspond with the US Department of Homeland Security as a representative of the Chicago Fire Department and the Securing the City project office * Monitor and approve backfill and funding for training in relation to this program. * Assist with inventory management of grant purchased equipment and bills as related to calibration, repair and replacement. * Coordinate purchases with both the Chicago Fire Department Hazardous Materials Section and the US Department of Energy. * Consult with staff and consultants to determine scope of services, budgets and specifications for projects; established timelines and implements processes to track and monitor the progress of projects and the accomplishment of key objectives * Function as a specialized advisor to executive level managers or functions as a technical specialist or expert level professional * Coordinate and administer citywide initiatives, departmental programs and special projects of a complex and technical nature * Develop and negotiate contract terms and monitors services provided by private contractors ensuring contract provisions meet program specifications Additional duties may be required for this position. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Nine (9) years of work experience in project management, OR * Graduation from an accredited college with an associate's degree in business or public administration or a field of study directly related to the responsibilities of the position PLUS seven (7) years of project management work experience, OR * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's in business or public administration or a field of study directly related to the responsibilities of the position PLUS five (5) years of project management work experience, OR * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree or higher in business or public administration or a field of study directly related to the responsibilities of the position PLUS four (4) years of project management work experience. NOTE: A copy of your official transcripts will be required, if applicable. Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following: * Previous experience in public safety, emergency management, and/or homeland security * Knowledge of radiation safety and/or radiation detection equipment * Previous inventory management experience * Previous grant management experience * Knowledge and ability to develop government response plans SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to complete an interview.
