Duke Lifestyle and Weight Management Center

Durham, NC

Job Summary

Join one of the nation's pioneering academic obesity medicine programs.

The Duke Lifestyle and Weight Management Center is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our nationally respected multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving the health of patients living with obesity and obesity-related chronic diseases. For more than five decades, Duke has been a leader in evidence-based obesity medicine, integrating medical management, lifestyle medicine, nutrition, behavioral health, exercise science, and patient education into a comprehensive model focused on long-term health outcomes.

This position is centered on treating obesity as a chronic, complex medical disease through comprehensive, longitudinal care rather than episodic weight-loss interventions. The APP will independently manage an ambulatory panel of patients with obesity and associated cardiometabolic conditions, developing individualized treatment plans that integrate lifestyle medicine, evidence-based pharmacotherapy, behavioral interventions, and coordinated specialty care.

As a critical member of Duke Health's comprehensive obesity medicine program, the APP will collaborate closely with obesity medicine physicians, registered dietitians, behavioral health specialists, exercise physiologists, pharmacists, health coaches, primary care providers, bariatric surgery, and the Duke Health & Fitness Center to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.

This position is primarily based in Durham, North Carolina, with opportunities to provide telehealth services across North Carolina and support the continued expansion of Duke's Lifestyle and Weight Management program throughout the Triangle. The successful candidate will join a nationally respected academic team while helping shape innovative models of multidisciplinary obesity care, expand access to evidence-based treatment, and build meaningful, long-term relationships with patients.

Why Duke?

At Duke, obesity medicine is more than weight management. It is the comprehensive treatment of a chronic disease that affects nearly every organ system and influences lifelong health. Our multidisciplinary team partners with patients to improve metabolic health, reduce cardiovascular risk, prevent disease progression, and achieve sustainable lifestyle change through evidence-based medical care.

Joining Duke means becoming part of an academic health system recognized for clinical excellence, innovation, education, and collaborative care. You will have the opportunity to work alongside nationally respected colleagues while helping shape the future of obesity medicine through expanded access, multidisciplinary collaboration, and innovative models of care across the Triangle region.

  • Partner with pharmacists and care coordinators to optimize medication access, prior authorizations, and insurance navigation.
  • Educate patients regarding medication expectations, safety, and long-term management.

Multidisciplinary Care

Collaborate with Duke's multidisciplinary obesity medicine team-including physicians, registered dietitians, behavioral health specialists, exercise physiologists, pharmacists, health coaches, primary care providers, bariatric surgery, and the Duke Health & Fitness Center-to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
