Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
- Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform throughphysical examinations.
- Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
- Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-levelclinicaljudgement includingprescribing appropriate medications.
- Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
- Participatein clinical research projectsand understand the importance ofdocumentingtoxicities and data collection.
- Communication among multi-disciplinary teamsto support patient care.
- Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising,back-upsupervisingphysicians,APP colleagues, and team members.
- Participate inthe educationof patients, family members,new staff,studentsand other learners.
- See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
- Perform procedures including:
- Bone Marrow Biopsies
- Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy
- Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy
- Punch skin biopsy with simple suture.
- Attend program required meetings.
- Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
- Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
- Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.

Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
- Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
- Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
- Physician Assistant Certification
- Nurse Practitioner Licensure and Certification
- ACLS preferred
License
- Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required.
- Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. BLS required.
- DEA licensure with full prescriptive authority required.
Experience
- 1+ years of APP experience preferred
