| Primary Purpose of Position |
The Music Library Manager is responsible for the functional operations of the Nicholas Erneston Music Library within the Broyhill Music Center. Specific duties include:
- Manage the Music Library service desk;
- Train, hire, and supervise student employees;
- Generate, organize, and update documentation related to the policies and procedures of the Music Library;
- Submit orders for physical and electronic materials;
- Oversee the processing of physical materials, order processing supplies, and prepare items for bindery;
- Organize the stacks maintenance and mapping programs;
- Manage facilities and physical space in collaboration with Broyhill Music Center and University Libraries' facility managers;
- Assist with the design of social media content;
- Help organize and implement outreach events;
- Collaborate closely with the Music Library's evening supervisor.

| Minimum Qualifications |
Graduation from a four-year college or university and one year of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or high school and five years of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

| Essential Job Functions |
The Music Library Manager oversees the functional operations of the Nicholas Erneston Music Library within the Broyhill Music Center. Specific responsibilities include:
- Provide general and specialized reference assistance to Music Library users;
- Hire, train, and supervise the student employees to ensure seamless coverage of the Music Library service desk;
- Interpret, apply, and communicate Music Library policies and procedures;
- Manage the physical space of the Music Library, including collections, equipment, service desk, study rooms, and other user spaces;
- Maintain physical course reserves for School of Music faculty;
- Collaborate with Resources & Discovery on ordering and processing materials for the Music Library collection;
- Collaborate with the Music Library Cataloger on new materials workflow and cataloging projects;
- Consult with outside vendors on maintenance needs and the ordering of supplies and equipment;
- Contribute to the Music Library's social media content;
- Collaborate with Music Library colleagues on designing and organizing outreach events;
- Apply technical knowledge in troubleshooting AV equipment, printers, and software issues;
- Serve on University Libraries, School of Music, and campus committees as appropriate;
- Other duties as assigned.

| Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position |
- Knowledge of music, including notation, terminology, formats, and playback technologies.
- Knowledge of academic library tools and systems.
- Customer service skills.
- Ability to assist with troubleshooting technology, such as printers and copiers.
- Knowledge of major social media platforms and tools.
- Ability and willingness to be proactive and resourceful to meet the needs of the Music Library and the University Libraries.

| Preferred Qualifications |
Ideally, candidates will have a bachelor's degree in music, at least one year of customer service experience, and at least one year of supervisory, mentoring, or training experience. Additional experience with the following is also desired:
- Academic libraries;
- Hiring and evaluating direct reports;
- Setting and enforcing policies;
- Integrated library systems and other library technology solutions;
- Canva or other creative design programs.

| Required Functional Competencies to Successfully Perform Job Duties. |
Client/Customer Service * Assist and guide patrons using the library catalog, WorldCat, music searching, music reference sources, and online music databases.
* Use complex and original search strategies for music materials in a variety of music and non-music databases, including limiting by format, publisher number, and performer(s).
* Have frequent contact with the School of Music students and faculty regarding circulation, acquisition, and other library-related matters.
* Order materials by patron request and as selected by the Director for the Music Library.
* Work with outside vendors as necessary.
Communication
* Communicate Music Library policies with library users; formulate written notices for technical problems and adjusted closing times; update the hours on the website.
* Communicate with a variety of users via email, in person, and on the phone.
* Collaborate with
HSOM and University Libraries building managers on issues as needed.
* Communicate with other campus units, such as Student Employment and
ITS, as well as external service providers to ensure proper support for the Music Library.
* Assist the Music Librarians in various outreach activities, and the creation of content for social media accounts such as Instagram and other platforms.
Planning & Organizing Work * Manage all aspects involving part-time employment in the Music Library, including but not limited to hiring, training, scheduling, performance monitoring, and time approval. Support development opportunities as appropriate.
* Oversee the service desk schedule to ensure proper staffing.
* In consultation with outside vendors, coordinate maintenance and order supplies and equipment.
* Develop a calendar of periodic tasks and projects including stacks maintenance, reserves removal, and cleanup projects.
* Maintain the physical course reserves. |
