Position Overview

Position Summary:
Under general supervision, the Head Cheer Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of an NCAA Division II cheer program, including the development, coaching, and management of all aspects of the program. This includes leading practices, strategizing for competition, promoting the student-athlete experience, and fostering a positive and competitive team culture. The Head Cheer Coach will recruit, train, and evaluate student-athletes, monitor student-athletes' academic achievement, and ensure compliance with all NCAA, conference, and university policies. Additionally, the Head Cheer Coach will collaborate with other staff and departments to enhance the overall success of the program, provide guidance and mentorship to athletes, and build strong relationships with the community.




Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for game operations for on-campus team competitions.
  • Recruiting and coaching of student-athletes
  • Monitoring student-athletes' academic achievement
  • Managing budget
  • Coordinating travel arrangements for team competition
  • Directing cheer camps
  • Fund-Raising (Departmental and Program-specific)
  • Program planning and forecasting
  • Leadership development
  • Managing social media accounts
  • Managing cheer coaching and administrative staff members.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of demonstrated successful coaching experience required
  • Master's degree and college head coaching experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Lone Star Athletic Conference preferred
  • A valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment is also required, as well as the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in all kinds of weather and road conditions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated coaching skills and mastery of the sport of Cheer
  • Knowledge of progressive teaching and coaching pedagogy, including organized practice plans that are routinely well implemented
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively with student athletes
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable sports and playing rules.
  • Candidate must be able to work as a team member, be self-directed, and be willing to serve as a good will ambassador for ENMU Athletics.
  • Candidate must be fully committed to a positive student-athlete experience, promoting academic success and graduation, and complying with NCAA, Lone Star Conference, and ENMU policies
  • Proven leadership in the successful fulfillment of Cheer coaching responsibilities, including competitive strategies, coaching skills, recruiting, individual and team camp operations, fiscal management, fund-raising, organizational and/or administrative leadership, and public relations.
  • Ability to work well in a highly fast-paced environment and be a team player with the athletic department and the University.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate strong moral character and maintain conduct that aligns with both the University's and the state's code of conduct.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed at various times, including evenings, weekends, and will require traveling. The temporary, part-time position will average 25 hours per week on a 10-month appointment.
  • Demonstrate and perform various cheer techniques, including tumbling, acrobatics, and aerial maneuvers.
  • Lift, support, and catch athletes of varying weights to ensure safety during cheer execution.
  • Stand, run, jump, and move dynamically for extended periods during training sessions, practices, and performances.
  • Possess the flexibility and coordination necessary for spotting and assisting athletes in complex stunts.
  • Maintain strong vocal projection to provide clear instructions in loud environments, such as gyms or arenas.
  • Occasionally lift or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Exhibit quick reflexes and reaction times to prevent injuries and ensure athlete safety.
  • Work in various environmental conditions, including outdoor performances and travel-based events.
  • May have exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
