The R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy is seeking an experienced and high-performing Senior Software Engineer with a strong background in software engineering and bioinformatics, along with enthusiasm for working with a mid-sized academic team to develop optimized software and workflows for genomic and proteomic data analysis. The selected candidate will lead development efforts for both high-performance command line analysis software and cloud-based web services. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- Design novel algorithms, software, and data management architectures for cutting-edge, large-scale genomics and molecular dynamics research, setting technical direction across command-line tools and cloud-based services.
- Establish software engineering standards, including testing, continuous integration, and release management, and drive their adoption across the group's projects.
- Mentor and train junior software engineers and student researchers.
- Author the technical content of grant proposals and advise on research funding strategy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of optimized software development in Rust or similar low-level language.
- Knowledge of Python for data management and analysis.
- Knowledge of Linux, HPC, and cloud environments.
- Skills in developing server-side / cloud solutions,
- Ability to communicate effectively in both technical and non-technical contexts.
- Ability to mentor junior software engineers.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

- Experience with bioinformatic (genomic) data analysis and related analysis topics.
