HDR is seeking an Area Traffic Business Class Leader to provide both technical leadership and strategic direction for Traffic Engineering services within the area. This role combines responsibilities of a Business Class Leader and a Senior Project Engineer, focusing on delivery, staff development, and business growth. In the role of Area Traffic Engineering Business Class Leader, we'll count on you to:
- Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for Traffic Engineering services
- Manage mid- to large-scale traffic engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams
- Lead traffic studies including traffic impact analyses, signal timing, and simulation modeling
- Oversee preparation of PS&E plans including signing, striping, signals, and lighting
- Conduct advanced operational traffic analysis using tools such as VISSIM, Synchro, and HCS
- Serve as a technical expert in traffic operations, safety, and ITS systems
- Coordinate and improve technical competencies of staff
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level staff
- Ensure QA/QC and high-quality deliverables
- Take responsibility for area-wide development, coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of business class staff to meet client needs and market drivers
- Internally and externally recruit, develop and retain staff in accordance with area needs and strategy
- Oversee delivery of business class services and deliverables to meet client expectations, workload leveling needs and best-practice application

- Collaborate on business class efforts with area operations, professional services lead, marketing and project management
- Participate in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities.
- Responsible for overseeing deliverables with technical accuracy and quality control, continually improving standards and best practices, and implementing and ensuring effective quality assurance and quality control reviews
- Develop and lead business class practice and professional discipline groups, and project teams
- Participate in business class strategic planning, budgeting and plan implementation
- Participate in and contribute to annual business plan development. Partner with market Sector and Business Group leadership in managing business plan goals throughout the year
- Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
- Possesses excellent analytical and communication skills, as well as leadership and mentoring skills
- Solid business development skills; demonstrated ability to relate well to clients; and demonstrated presentation skills
- Experience with Microsoft tools such as MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and OneDrive
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Proficient in Traffic Engineering design and operations principles
- Expertise in traffic operations and modeling tools
- Knowledge of ITS planning and design
- Master's degree
- PTOE certification preferred
- Experience leading teams and multidisciplinary projects
- Geographic diversity of experience throughout the US
- Knowledge of Florida markets including client relationships and past project experience
- Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
- 10 years of experience
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
- Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
- Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
