Job Purpose:

Ensures timely resolution of past due loan payments and performs collection activities and related loan servicing for more complex small business (branch based) and business banking loans. Devises and executes effective collection strategies designed to efficiently resolve loan delinquency, mitigate risk, and maximize recoveries while minimizing expense and maintaining excellent customer service. Provides guidance and coaching to the Commercial Collector I role.

Job Duties:

  • Ensures timely resolution of past due loan payments and performs collection activities and related loan servicing for more complex small business (branch based) and business banking loans.
  • Devises and executes effective collection strategies designed to efficiently resolve loan delinquency, mitigate risk, and maximize recoveries while minimizing expense and maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Reviews and analyzes loan documents, loan payments, past dues, loan collateral and inspections, monetary compliance/defaults, covenant(s) compliance, financial statement reporting, maturities, forbearance agreements, bankruptcy, and other legal proceedings.
  • Recommends workout solutions and/or loan modifications, implements orderly liquidation/exit or rehabilitation plans, manages foreclosures and repossessions.
  • Initiates collection calls and resolves delinquencies while demonstrating proper phone etiquette, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Provides guidance and coaching to the Commercial Collector I role.
  • Collaborates with line of business partners to ensure proactive risk management and devises and implements strategy for delinquency reduction and over all asset quality improvement.
  • Manages internal and external resources to effectively control expenses.
  • Provides timely and accurate reporting to senior management.
  • Adheres to bank's policies and procedures and complies with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and collaborates with attorneys to enforce rights and remedies, as necessary
  • Handles administrative functions as needed for the Special Assets department. (CARM Pro updates, default/reservation of rights notice issuance, misc. correspondence)
  • Will perform special projects as assigned.

Education, Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial collections or as a loan officer, workout banker, credit analyst, or underwriter preferred.
  • Working knowledge of bankruptcy, lending laws and risks associated with troubled loans, state collection laws, foreclosure and Article 9 processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate viewpoint and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to effectively coach and mentor less experience associates.
  • Well-versed on bank's credit policies and procedures.
  • Current on applicable banking laws, regulatory requirements and credit/risk management practices.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft suite of products and commercial loan origination system software platforms.
  • Some travel required; must have a valid driver's license for travel throughout Peoples Bank footprint of offices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial collections or as a loan officer, workout banker, credit analyst, or underwriter preferred.
