Overview & Position Summary

This role is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and trades to support residential construction projects. Working under moderate supervision, the position contributes to project budgeting, procurement, and operational efficiency. It collaborates with cross-functional teams to evaluate bids, analyze costs, and provide actionable recommendations while supporting the development of junior team members. The role impacts team results by ensuring timely, accurate, and reliable estimating information.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for residential construction projects, including materials, labor, and subcontractor services.
  • Analyze vendor proposals, subcontractor bids, and historical cost data to support budget development and procurement decisions.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Construction, and Design teams to ensure alignment of scope, pricing, and project schedules.
  • Review estimates for accuracy and completeness and recommend adjustments when necessary.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standardized estimating tools, templates, and processes.
  • Support other team members by providing guidance, feedback, and training as needed.
  • Resolve moderately complex estimation issues by analyzing data and drawing on prior experience.
  • Track and report on estimation activity, including project budgets, savings opportunities, and variances.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders regarding cost estimates, assumptions, and recommendations.
  • Create designs to illustrate takeoffs for customers.

Education & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, OR 6-8 years equivalent experience in cost estimation or construction management.

Preferred:

  • Experience in homebuilding or residential construction estimating.
  • Familiarity with cost estimation software, ERP systems, and construction management platforms.

Skills & Competencies

  • Broad knowledge of construction materials, trades, and residential building practices.
  • Ability to analyze complex cost data and make recommendations based on findings.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and vendors.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in estimates and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently while adhering to team and organizational standards.
  • Proficiency in estimating software, spreadsheets, and construction management tools.
  • Problem-solving skills for moderately complex estimation challenges.
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to junior team members.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Knowledge of procurement and subcontractor management processes.

Working Conditions

Primarily office-based work with regular collaboration across teams and vendors. Occasional site visits to construction communities may be required to validate materials, review project progress, or support cross-functional alignment. Limited travel may be necessary for vendor meetings or corporate events.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing office work.
  • Ability to walk on construction sites with uneven terrain during occasional visits.
  • Ability to lift or carry documents, plans, or material samples up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, document handling, and data entry.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and in team meetings.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $70,000-$90,000
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
  • Bonus Type: Year-end Discretionary
