Auria is seeking a
Senior Spectrum Regulatory SW Engineer to support executive-level federal information leadership as well as major commercial satellite operators and technology companies. In this role, you will act as a technical bridge between top-tier private sector innovators and the senior-most IT strategy offices in the federal defense space. This includes serving as the primary technical and regulatory interface between a team of expert engineers and senior government officials, international regulatory bodies, and interagency partners.
You will be responsible for translating complex electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and radio frequency (RF) modeling results into policy recommendations and strategic positions. Unlike a pure software role, this position requires a blend of technical mastery in RF physics, a deep understanding of domestic and international spectrum regulations, and the leadership presence to represent U.S. interests at forums such as the ITU and WRC.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO:
- Lead & Delegate: Orchestrate the efforts of a technical team, delegating complex engineering tasks and synthesizing their output into cohesive reports and presentations.
- Regulatory Representation: Act as a subject matter expert and representative for the DoW CIO at meetings with various regulatory bodies (e.g., FCC and ITU).
- Public Speaking & Influence: Present technical findings and simulation results at national and international conferences (e.g., World Radiocommunication Conferences) to influence spectrum policy.
- Ad-Hoc Analysis: Conduct independent RF engineering analyses and script simulations using Python, C++, or MATLAB to validate team findings or explore "what-if" regulatory scenarios.
- Strategic Advocacy: Develop technical positions that protect DoW spectral access while coordinating with commercial and international stakeholders to minimize interference.
WHAT THE TEAM REQUIRES:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related technical field.
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in RF engineering, spectrum management, or systems engineering.
- Clearance: Active Secret clearance at a minimum.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrable understanding of the regulatory frameworks governing the electromagnetic spectrum, like ITU Recommendations or FCC rulemaking processes.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to write and execute scripts for engineering analysis in Python, C++, or MATLAB.
- RF Modeling: Proven ability to run and interpret complex RF simulations (e.g., propagation modeling, link budget analysis, spectrum sharing studies and interference mitigation).
- Customer Requirement Interpretation: Working with customers to define, elaborate on, and execute their requirements, objectives, and interests in a RF spectrum engineering context.
- Communication: Exceptional public speaking and technical writing skills, with a proven ability to explain highly abstract physics/engineering concepts to non-technical policy makers.
WHAT THE TEAM PREFERS:
- Clearance: Active Top Secret with SCI clearance preferred.
- A Master's or Doctorate in Electrical Engineering or a related field with a heavy emphasis on Electromagnetics or Signal Processing.
- WRC/ITU Experience: Direct experience participating in or supporting delegation efforts for the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) or ITU-R Study Groups.
- RF/Spectrum Modeling First-Principles: Deep theoretical understanding of the mathematical and physical frameworks underlying RF link budgeting and propagation models (e.g., Longley-Rice, ITM, TIREM, P.2001, P.452, P.2108. P.2109, etc.). You should be capable of auditing model validity, identifying inherent algorithmic limitations, and developing custom analytical extensions when COTS/GOTS tools fall short of mission requirements.
- Strategic Leadership: Track record working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams or leading high-stakes interagency working groups (e.g., NTIA/FCC/DoW coordination) to reach technical consensus.
PAY TRANSPARENCY
The salary offered will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications - skills, education, and experience - and the position level. Salary Range: $160,000 - $225,000
APPLICATION DEADLINE: July 4, 2026
