We are seeking a Market Segment Manager for our Small Molecules & Peptides Drug Discovery team at Biotage. The Market Segment Manager is a key strategic role responsible for driving commercial growth across the small molecules, peptide synthesis, and purification markets. This position requires an innovative, metrics-driven marketer with deep experience in small molecule drug discovery workflows and peptide synthesis and purification technologies, paired with strong B2B marketing expertise.


This role is hybrid (3 days a week in office minimum) in Charlotte, NC.
The ideal candidate combines scientific fluency with commercial acumen, enabling them to understand customer decision-making, anticipate market shifts, and position Biotage competitively. You will lead regional marketing strategy, empower the sales organization, and execute high-impact campaigns that expand market penetration and accelerate revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Market & Customer Insight
  • Leverage extensive knowledge of small molecule drug discovery, peptide synthesis, and purification workflows to understand and quantify the scientific and operational drivers behind customer purchasing decisions.
  • Conduct market research, competitive assessments, and Voice of Customer (VoC) initiatives to identify trends, unmet needs, and emerging opportunities.
  • Evaluate customer perceptions and competitor technologies to inform strategic positioning and differentiation.
  • Develop compelling unique selling propositions (USPs) and messaging frameworks tailored to pharma, biotech, CROs, and academic research environments.

Strategic Marketing Leadership
  • Define and own regional marketing goals, KPIs, and performance metrics for the small molecules, peptides, and purification portfolio.
  • Build and execute comprehensive regional marketing strategies that increase portfolio visibility, drive demand, and expand market penetration.
  • Partner closely with product marketing, sales leadership, and global marketing teams to ensure alignment of strategy, messaging, and execution.

Campaign Development & Execution
  • Design, deploy, and optimize metrics-based, multi-channel marketing campaigns to drive new customer acquisition, accelerate pipeline growth, and capture market share.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to refine targeting, messaging, and channel mix for maximum commercial impact.
  • Develop compelling content and collateral-including application notes, white papers, presentations, digital assets, and customer success stories-to support campaign objectives.

Sales Enablement & Commercial Support
  • Equip the sales team with high-quality tools, training, and insights that enhance customer engagement and improve win rates.
  • Develop regional go-to-market strategies for new product launches in collaboration with product marketing and global teams.
  • Create sales enablement materials such as competitive battlecards, workflow positioning guides, value calculators, and objection-handling resources.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with product management, R&D, and global marketing to ensure regional customer insights inform product roadmaps and priorities.
  • Work with field application scientists and technical experts to ensure scientific accuracy and relevance in all marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with regional sales teams to monitor performance, identify growth opportunities, and adjust strategies as needed.

Team Management & Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing application team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide clear direction, coaching, and performance feedback to support professional growth and ensure team objectives align with organizational priorities.
  • Champion cross-team and cross-functional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and operational excellence across marketing, sales, and technical functions.

Application Roadmap Prioritization & Resource Assignment
  • Drive short- and long-term application roadmap planning by integrating customer insights, market trends, and commercial priorities.
  • Prioritize application development initiatives based on strategic impact, resource availability, and alignment with portfolio growth objectives.
  • Allocate resources effectively across application development, content creation, and campaign execution to maximize commercial outcomes and accelerate time-to-market.
  • Partner with product management and R&D to ensure roadmap decisions support innovation, differentiation, and sustain competitive advantage
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline; an MS or Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
  • Deep experience and understanding of small molecule drug discovery, peptide synthesis, and purification markets, including customer workflows, pain points, and competitive technologies.
  • 5+ years of B2B marketing experience in life sciences, drug discovery, analytical instrumentation, or closely related sectors.
  • Proven ability to translate complex scientific concepts into compelling commercial messaging and value propositions.
  • Hands-on experience with technologies used in medicinal chemistry, peptide synthesis, chromatography, or purification workflows, enabling credible engagement with technical audiences.
  • Strong understanding of market needs and the ability to translate and prioritize applications related to those needs for the applications team.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic, data-driven marketing plans and campaigns that deliver measurable results.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems, marketing automation platforms, and digital analytics tools.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to use metrics to guide decisions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly technical commercial environment.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, and developing teams, including workload prioritization and resource allocation.
