The Med Staff Resident performs patient care activities within the scope of clinical privileges commensurate with their level of advancement and competence under the general supervision of an appropriately privileged faculty member.

Med Staff Resident Responsibilities:

  • Develops assessment and treatment plans.

  • Performs rounds and records progress notes.

  • Writes/dictates admission notes, progress notes, procedure notes and discharge summaries.

  • Conducts initial and ongoing assessments of patients' medical,physicaland psycho-social status.

  • Participates in institutional committees and councils to which the resident is appointed or invited.

  • Orders tests,examinationsand therapies in addition to performing patient history assessments and physicals.

  • Provides patient education and counseling covering health status, test results, disease processes and discharge planning.

  • Participates in the education activities of the residency program and, as appropriate, participates in institutional orientation programs, education programs, continuous quality improvement teams and other activities involving the clinical staff.

  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited institution

  • Experience: Physician Residency; Resident must meet the qualifications for resident eligibility as outlined in the ACGME Institutional and Program requirements

  • Licensure: Physician Upon Start; Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia
