THE POSITION

The Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic with the Department of Transportation, Wyoming County Maintenance Organization plays a key role in keeping vital equipment operating safely. This position allows you to use your mechanical skills each day to support important transportation work. You will solve hands-on challenges and help maintain the tools and equipment that keep road crews moving. This is a great chance to take pride in work that directly serves your community.



DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on repairing, maintaining, and inspecting a wide range of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

  • Vehicle Repair: Inspect and repair cars, trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment parts such as brakes, clutches, and transmissions
  • Preventative Maintenance: Carry out routine service, tune-ups, tire changes, and adjustments to systems including cooling, suspension, electrical, and heating
  • State Inspections: Complete safety and emissions inspections, make necessary repairs, and prepare all required paperwork
  • Diagnostic Work: Identify equipment problems using diagnostic tools and determine needed repairs and parts
  • Safety Practices: Follow all safety rules, report hazards, and maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Support Tasks: Assist other mechanics with major repairs, maintain equipment records, and demonstrate repair techniques to coworkers

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work hours subject to change due to weather/season; winter shifts - 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the Air Brake restriction (L) and Manual Transmission restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
  • This position requires employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
  • This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 4 or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
