Duke University Health System Float Pool Patient Attendant Safety Aide

Night Shift 7:00pm-7:30am 3-12 hour shifts per week

Role overview: Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Attendant Safety Aide provides continuous, direct observation of assigned patient(s) to promote safety and promptly communicate any changes in condition or behavior. This role supports basic mobility and personal care tasks and documents observations in the electronic health record.

Essential functions:

* Maintain constant, direct observation and visualization of identified patient(s).

* Monitor and report changes in physical, emotional, and mental status; observe and report behavioral changes.

* Document observations in the electronic health record (EHR) per unit standards.

* Assist care team with patient ambulation and mobilization as directed.

* Support personal hygiene and comfort needs (e.g., bathing, oral hygiene, grooming, repositioning, feeding, toileting) in collaboration with staff.

* May serve as a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Observer (assist with donning/doffing) and/or as a Screener (assist with wellness screening upon hospital entry), as assigned.

* Perform other duties as assigned to support patient and team safety.

Minimum requirements: High school diploma or equivalent; six (6) months of hospital experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Professional development / advancement requirement: Continued advancement in this role requires a one (1) year commitment to professional development by enrolling in a progressive career program available through Duke University Health System (e.g., Nursing Care Assistant, Behavioral Health Technician, Medical Assisting), as well as nursing program enrollment options available through Duke University Health System.
