We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to support missioncritical, highimpact systems that directly serve realworld end users. This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer who enjoys building scalable RESTful APIs, working in Linux environments, and contributing to national security and geospatial intelligence missions. You'll join a collaborative, Agile team delivering modern software solutions across enterprise platforms using DevSecOps and cloudnative methodologies. The work you do will have immediate visibility and tangible impact for a highly engaged user community. *What You'll Do* * Design, develop, test, and maintain backend software using objectoriented programming principles * Build, support, and enhance RESTful API services within established architectural frameworks * Develop and optimize SQL queries, supporting data validation, schema updates, and performance improvements * Develop, deploy, and troubleshoot applications in Linuxbased environments * Identify, debug, and resolve application and system performance issues * Contribute to solution design discussions and support implementation of approved architectures * Collaborate with Senior engineers, crossfunctional partners, and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions * Participate in code reviews, follow engineering standards, and contribute to documentation and best practices *What We're Looking For* *Required Qualifications* * U.S. Citizenship (required per contract) * TS/SCI eligibility * 8-11 years of experience * Professional experience with Python and/or Java * Experience developing or maintaining RESTful API servers * Strong SQL skills with relational databases * Handson experience working in Linux environments * Ability to work independently within established technical guidelines *Nice to Have* * JavaScript or frontend exposure * Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab preferred) * Familiarity with Docker, OpenShift, or containerized environments * Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred) * Experience with Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Tomcat, or Maven * Agile development experience * Familiarity with modern web frameworks *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gaithersburg, MD. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $81.00 - $95.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
