The Role

The Executive Director, Clinical Operations is accountable for leadership, direction, and administration of Providence Medical Foundation specialty clinics in Sonoma County. This role is responsible for the operational and clinical outcomes of assigned specialty practices to ensure efficient, highquality, coordinated, and patientfocused care. This position is onsite in Santa Rosa, CA.

The Executive Director leads Directors of Clinic Operations representing key specialties and programs and works closely with crossfunctional partners across the medical group, acute care, clinical programs, finance, and planning and strategy. Together, this leader develops and executes physician alignment strategies, clinical and strategic partnerships, and growth initiatives in support of regional and system performance metrics.

As a key member of the Providence Medical Foundation Executive Team, the Executive Director, Clinical Operations plays a central role in advancing specialty clinic strategy, operational excellence, and sustainable growth. The role may also provide leadership for additional enterprise initiatives as requested by executive leadership.

What You'll Do

Clinic Operations & Performance Leadership



  • Provide overall direction and leadership to specialty medical offices.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and standards of applicable regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • Lead clinic operations across workforce strategy, access, budgeting, financial performance, service metrics, and team execution.


Strategic Growth & Physician Alignment



  • Identify, evaluate, and scope appropriate growth opportunities in collaboration with local and regional ministry teams.
  • Develop and execute physician alignment strategies and specialty growth initiatives.
  • Partner with primary care, clinical programs, value teams, acute care, and system leadership to address community needs and strategic priorities.


Financial Stewardship & Planning



  • Guide clinic leadership in developing goals and annual operating budgets for assigned clinics.
  • Ensure clinics operate within budget guidelines while meeting quality, productivity, and access goals.
  • Participate in budget, space, and capital planning related to specialty clinics.
  • Monitor performance metrics including revenue, payor mix, productivity, and expenditures.


Leadership & Workforce Development



  • Hire, train, guide, evaluate, and provide leadership to Directors of Clinic Operations and clinic managers.
  • Identify staffing and development needs in partnership with clinic leadership.
  • Coordinate with the VP, Clinical Operations / Service Line leadership on staffing approvals.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and foster a diverse, inclusive workforce.


Operational Excellence & Change Leadership



  • Identify trends and recurring operational or caredelivery issues and introduce improvements in partnership with clinical and operational leaders.
  • Provide relevant operational feedback between providers, clinic leadership, and staff.
  • Lead and support strategic initiatives related to growth, service excellence, and operational improvement.


Governance, Representation & External Engagement



  • Represent specialty clinics on key Providence committees and boards.
  • Serve as a liaison to government, business, and community stakeholders on behalf of specialty clinics.
  • Support enterprise priorities through leadership on additional initiatives as assigned.


What You'll Bring

We are seeking a mission-driven leader with a strong background in strategic planning, financial accountability, and complex project management (Lean/CAP). You should be an exceptional communicator and a collaborative problem-solver who embodies a servant-leader mindset and aligns closely with Providence's core values and standards of care.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration (preferred) .
  • 7+ years of management experience in progressively responsible roles with demonstrated leadership and changemanagement capability, preferably in the ambulatory setting.
  • Experience working in a large, matrixed healthcare organization.
  • Direct experience collaborating with physicians and healthcare executive leaders.
  • Experience in operations, finance, quality, risk, and business growth and development.
  • Proven success building new business, developing teams, and aligning organizations around shared priorities.

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
