Maintenance Journeyman - Pump Mechanic (Union)

The Pump Mechanic is responsible for preventive maintenance and emergency repair of the facilities equipment and the operation of maintenance related equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to repair all pumps.

  • Perform pump maintenance and complete overhaul on all pumps in the terminal. This will include alignment of motors, pumps, and gear boxes, the installation of couplings, mechanical seals, and packing.

  • Cut, fit, and solder copper tubing joints.

  • Measure, cut, and fit threaded pipes up to 2".

  • Must be able to properly install a gasket and install and tighten stud bolts and nuts in the installation of hoses, flanges, valves, and tank manheads.

  • Must be able to correctly install a pressure relief valve and a steam trap in a threaded pipeline.

  • Operate a cherry picker, forklift, and similar equipment.

  • Must be able to properly drive a truck with four speed standard shifts.

  • Perform other related work as directed by supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum two years of experience in maintenance and construction environment, and in heavy equipment operations.

  • Ability to pass aptitude test.

  • Ability to pass a written and hands-on test on all functions described above within 30 days of starting position.

  • Valid Driver's License

  • TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT's terminal locations.

Skills and Abilities

  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in the English language.

  • Ability to understand written and verbal communication in the English language.

  • Ability to make decisions in a variable environment.

  • Ability to communicate with all other terminal departments.

Hours of Work

  • Typical hours of operation are Monday through Friday.

  • This is a non-exempt, hourly position. Employees are scheduled to work assigned shifts within a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays. All hours worked must be accurately recorded, and overtime is paid in accordance with FLSA and company policy.

  • Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.

  • This would require the ability to lift to 50 pounds, bend, stand, or stoop, as necessary.

  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, over water and not be afraid of heights.

  • Ability to wear and use a respirator, and all necessary personal protective equipment required of the position.
