The Aviation Department, which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Airport Operations Agent. The Airport is operated 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. This position will serve primarily in the Landside/Terminals functional area of the Airport Operations Division. However, it may also include opportunities to work in other functional areas of the Airport Operations Division. As an Airport Operations Agent you will be responsible for supporting the overall functions of the airport, with duties to include, but not limited to, assisting with various types of emergency responses, responding to incidents and accidents and preparing related reports, ensuring that documentation is both accurate and detailed, assisting customers by answering questions and providing information and guidance/direction, managing and directing large crowds of people, enforcing Airport Rules and Regulations and Broward County Code of Ordinances, monitoring parking and curbside operations, performing security inspections and security related tasks, and providing overall customer service to both internal and external customers.

General Description
Performs specialized, independent operations work involving a considerable amount of public contact in the dynamic environment of the County's Aviation Department.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires two (2) years of college level course work in airport management, aeronautical science or closely related field.
(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)

Requires one (1) year experience in airport operations or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license during employment and maintain authority to drive on County business.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge and Customs Seal.

Preferences

  • Associate Degree in Aviation Management or related field.
  • Two (2) years' experience in airport operations or related field.
Additional Information
All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check, including fingerprinting and all other information as required by the Federal Aviation Administration. Ability to maintain authorization to drive a County vehicle. Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area(SIDA) Badge. The Aviation Department operates under a Drug-Free Workplace Policy in compliance with the provisions of the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988.

All Aviation Department employees must possess the ability to interact courteously with the public, Airport vendors, contractors and fellow employees to maintain a professional work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.

Ability to obtain/maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) access with Customs and Border Protection Seal.
Ability to obtain / maintain Airfield driving privileges.

Per the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part 1542, all airport employees must undergo a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA) to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge, as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

SCOPE OF WORK

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Provide overall supervision and direct subordinates in monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures involving airport safety, security, daily operations, appearance, etc.

Schedules and conducts inspections, briefings and receives reports or electronic media through subordinates.

Responds to airport emergencies, directs use of Aviation Department resources, coordinates with emergency responders, law enforcement, fire and rescue, and other agencies. Staffing of incident unified command and Airport emergency operations center. Directs subordinate personnel in support of incident command function during emergencies.

Develops, coordinates and implements operating procedures related to the routine and emergency operation of the assigned specialized area.

Performs research and prepares reports as requested on legislation, rules, operational policies/procedures and other factors having an impact on airport operations.

Issues notices of violations and/or citations for non-compliance with airport rules and regulations, Chapter 2, 8 and 22 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances.

Assists division management in implementing and maintaining currency in operations manuals, emergency plans, ground transportation plans, training programs, standard operating procedures and other publications utilized by the Aviation Department.

Assists with the administration of contracts assigned to airport operations.

Ability to supervise the work of employees performing operational functions in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

Ability to lead and motivate the staff performing operational functions by creating an environment that fosters employee participation and a high level of productivity.

Ability to interact with command-level personnel of police, fire, air carriers, and federal agencies.

Ability to carry out complex oral and written instructions.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.
