POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State Wilkes-Barre is seeking a dynamic and student-focused professional to serve as the Coordinator of Facilities, Recreation & Intramurals. This position provides direct oversight of campus recreation operations, intramural programming, and the daily management of the Athletics and Recreation Building. This position is approved for a limited term. The position should be posted with a clear statement that the position will end upon the campus closing after Spring 2027.

The Coordinator plays a critical role in fostering student engagement, promoting wellness, and ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant facility operations. This individual will supervise student employees, coordinate recreational and intramural programming, manage facility usage, and serve as the primary on-site professional responsible for day-to-day operations.

This position will also support operational planning and implementation as the campus transitions toward closure, ensuring continuity of services and responsible management of resources during this period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, on-site professional oversight of the daily operations of the Athletics and Recreation Building

  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise student employees

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement intramural sports and recreational programming

  • Manage facility scheduling, including student use, campus events, and external rentals

  • Coordinate facility rentals and serve as the primary point of contact for external partners

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, risk management practices, and incident reporting procedures

  • Monitor facility conditions, equipment usage, and coordinate maintenance needs with campus partners

  • Track and manage budgets, including recreation programming expenses and facility revenue

  • Promote recreation programs through campus marketing and outreach efforts

  • Assess program participation and facility usage to inform continuous improvement

  • Collaborate with campus departments and student organizations to support engagement initiatives

  • Assist with transition planning related to the campus closure, including adjustments to programming, staffing, and facility operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in campus recreation or collegiate intramural programs

  • Knowledge of risk management and safety practices in recreation facilities

  • Experience with event or facility scheduling

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Associate Degree 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $38,300.00 - $55,500.00.
