Job Summary
#CA-DS The Pharmacy Manager provides leadership and directs the medication management programs within the Pharmacy Department. The manager represents the department and medical center on committees and task forces related to these programs including but not limited to the Medication Error Reduction Committee and related subcommittees and task forces. The manager ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations, Joint Commission and professional practice standards, as well as University and department policies, procedures and standards, and serves as pharmacy liaison and member of the Regulatory Accreditation Committee. This individual works with and manages pharmacy personnel who conduct the day-to-day activities that support medication safety, drug diversion prevention, and medication security programs. The manager is responsible for supervision, staff development and assessment of staff competency. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer and other members of the pharmacy management team with planning, implementing and monitoring new programs, processes and technologies that enhance medication use systems, optimize patient outcomes, promote the safe use of medications, and achieve best practices for medication use safety and pharmacy practice. - Current and unrestricted California Pharmacist license. Out-of-State Pharmacist eligible to apply. If Out-of-State Pharmacist, must obtain and provide California Pharmacist license within 6 months of hire date.
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) from an accredited college or university, or equivalent training
- Completion of Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) training at an American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) Accredited program, or 5 years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience (to include 3 years of work experience in pharmacy operations or administration, and 2 years of experience with a regulatory and compliance component in a health care setting or equivalent experience)
- Academic Medical Center (AMC) Pharmacy Operations experience
- Project management experience for operational and strategic projects
- Competence with regulations involving pharmacy practice issued by the California Board of Pharmacy
- Ability to exercise the utmost discretion in managing sensitive information learned in the course of performing their duties. Sensitive information includes but is not limited to employee and student records, health and patient records, financial data, strategic plans, proprietary information, and any other sensitive or non-public information learned during the course and scope of employment.
- Demonstrated understanding that sensitive information should be shared on a limited basis and actively takes steps to limit access to sensitive information to individuals who have legitimate business need to know
- Ability to ensure that sensitive information is properly safeguarded
- Ability to follow all organizational policies and laws on data protection and privacy. This includes secure handling of physical and digital records and proper usage of IT systems to prevent data leaks.

- Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships

Preferred Qualifications
- Board Certification [e.g. Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS)], or equivalent
- LEAN Certification
- Master's degree [Master of Health Administration (MHA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), or Master of Science (MS) in related area], or equivalent
- Management experience within in a hospital setting, or completion of a Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency
- Medication Safety Officer experience
- Strategic planning experience
- Direct experience with regulatory accreditation bodies (e.g. TJC, CDPH, BOP)

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.
The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
