The University of Arizona seeks a qualified applicant for the position of Assistant Professor of Practice in Classics for our Tucson area campus. Duties include: Teach University of Arizona Classics courses for the Dorrance Study Abroad program using the knowledge of Latin & Greek Literature; Roman & Greek Art; Roman Topography & Monuments; and Classical Archaeological Sites. The position requires a PhD degree in Classics, or equivalent and one (1) year of experience as an Assistant Professor of Practice in Classics, Assistant Professor in Classics, Visiting Assistant Professor, Lecturer, or Instructor. This position is non-security sensitive and requires a name-based criminal background check. This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- Teach 2-3 University of
Arizona Classics courses each semester in Orvieto, Italy according to the academic expectations of Classics at the University of Arizona. - Meet deadlines and follow
policies from the University of Arizona Study Abroad Office, which is a Program collaborator (e.g., syllabi, grading, etc.). - Collaborate with other
Program faculty regarding course themes, academic deadlines and expectations, and travel excursions to create a unified but interdisciplinary study experience for the students. - Contribute academic content
to a travel field guide that complements the courses offered. - Hold office hours,
mentoring, advising, and tutoring students. Chaperoning program travel excursions. In addition to travel throughout Italy, this would include travel with students and other faculty and Program staff to various European countries. - Conduct lectures
in-situ. Will also perform duties associated with this program while on campus in Tucson, Arizona. This program begins and ends each semester at the University of Arizona, where the Assistant Professor of Practice in Classics will begin and end the UA Classics courses they are teaching. - Engage with program and
curriculum development and planning. In addition, when not abroad, teach for the program at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
