Position/Department Summary:
Under general supervision and in accordance with established methods, standards and procedures, paints and refinishes interior and exterior building surfaces and furnishings throughout the hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responding to routine and emergency service requests via online work order, radio dispatch or as assigned by Group Leader/Supervisor. Planning assigned work by examining work site and project specifications, selecting and obtaining needed equipment and materials and determining appropriate sequence of tasks.
- Preparing work site for painting and/or refinishing. Masking around areas to be painted using tape and paper, spreading drop cloths and assembles scaffolding, ladders and other staging equipment as necessary. Preparing surfaces by using sanders, scrapers, solvents and other materials to clean and remove old finishes and by filling nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster and other fillers.
- Painting and refinishing interior and exterior building surfaces, trimmings, furniture and equipment according to specifications. Mixing paints to desired color, as necessary, by mixing and blending required portions of pigment, thinners and drying substances. Applying coats of paint, varnish, stain and related materials using paintbrushes, rollers, trimmers and spray guns.
- Maintaining communication with other engineering department personnel in order to plan and coordinate work assignments and describe and refer problems/issues outside scope of authority/trade. Communicating with customer departments as needed to clarify job specifications and minimize any disruption of department services/operations.
- Completing, filing and/or routes a variety of logs and records required to document work performed and ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements. Accessing hospital and/or departmental computer systems in order to process and forward work orders, receive, prepare and respond to routine electronic correspondence and perform other related functions.
- Maintaining neatness and safety of work area. Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment in working condition, reporting items in need of repair or replacement to Group Leader/Supervisor. Returning materials/equipment to designated storage locations.
- Maintaining technical knowledge and skills through attendance at in service and continuing education programs and participation in other related activities.
- Contributing to teamwork.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A High School diploma or GED.
Experience:
- Up to 1 year of basic technical training and 2 years' experience
- 3 to 4 years of facilities experience preferred
- Prior knowledge of building codes, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
Shift/hours:
- Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm
The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
