Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Ambulatory Care Technician - Certified in the Department of Pediatrics within the New Jersey Medical School ( NJMS).

The Ambulatory Care Technician ( ACT) provides medical assistance to nurses and physicians in the overall care of patients, including technical procedures such as phlebotomy, and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections. The ACT functions under the clinical guidance of the Physician and/or APN when performing clinical tasks during patient care. Demonstrates competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care. Assists with maintaining an inventory of examination/procedure room supplies. Assists in the organization of efficient patient flow. Provides HIV, STI, and pregnancy testing, and processes authorizations and referrals, as needed. The ACT demonstrates problem-solving skills as they relate to patient care activities. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions as a member of the healthcare team.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Participates in the care of the patient, under the clinical guidance of the Physician and/or APN and in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Performs delegated procedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective, and efficient manner according to Clinical Practice Policy and Procedures.
  • Assists patients to exam room and prepares patients for examination, including assisting providers in patient procedures/treatments/examinations, (preparation, positioning, supplies, equipment). Problem solves obstacles throughout the process and notifies manager and patients of wait time.
  • Obtains and records patient's vital signs, chief complaint, allergies, medical history, surgical history, family history, as well as sexual history, and gynecological (GYN) history..
  • Incorporates trauma informed medical assistance to nurses and physicians in the overall care of patients, including technical procedures such as phlebotomy, and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduation of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Certifications/Licenses

  • Current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Must obtain Phlebotomist and CPR certification within six (6) months of hire.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to speak clearly and write proficiently.
Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of related experience in an adolescent/gynecology medical office setting preferred.
  • Experience in well woman reproductive health and HIV/STI care preferred. Computer literacy with competence in Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Knowledge of Newark community preferred.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift or exert force up to twenty (20) pounds.

  • Perform delegated procedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective, and efficient manner according to Clinical Practice Policy and Procedures under clinical supervision.
