The Irene and Richard Frary Gallery is seeking a creative and dedicatedFrary Gallery Manager to play a key supporting role in the successful operation of the Irene and Richard Frary Gallery and the arts and culture programming at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center (HBC) in Washington, DC. This individual reports to the Director of the Gallery and will help support the daily administrative, programmatic, and logistical needs of the gallery as well as pop-up/temporary exhibitions and arts and culture programming. In close collaboration with the Gallery Director, this position supports exhibition planning and implementation, and related programming. This role will also support fundraising efforts in coordination with Development and Alumni Relations, student engagement efforts, event coordination, and communications. In addition, the manager will coordinate all gallery-related contracts and vendor agreements, coordinating with the Finance and Procurement teams to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures. The Gallery Manager also supports day-to-day operational needs, public safety, and facilities management. Work schedule requires availability for ad hoc evening and weekend work related to gallery and center-related programming, exhibition openings, etc.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Administrative, Exhibition, and Program Support

  • Support day-to-day operations of the Frary gallery, including student assistant scheduling, document management, and general administrative tasks.
  • Assist in coordination and execution of exhibitions in the gallery and pop-up locations, programs, and events, including liaising with guest curators, artists, and university stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external vendors related to exhibition production including but not limited to graphic designers, fine arts shippers, framers, lighting designers, printers, and installers.
  • Help track project timelines and milestones to ensure smooth exhibition and event execution.
  • Assist in the development of reports and briefing materials for stakeholder meetings and fundraising activities.
  • Provide logistical support for cross-departmental events at HBC including some nights and weekends


Contract and Vendor Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all gallery-related contracts and agreements.
  • Draft, review, and route contracts for approval in coordination with university Finance and Procurement offices.
  • Ensure all contractual obligations are met, including vendor payments, deliverables, and compliance with legal and insurance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of active and historical contracts and vendor performance.


Communications and Outreach Support

  • Assist the Gallery Director and communications team with materials to promote exhibitions and gallery events.
  • Help maintain content on the Bloomberg Connects app and work with content and marketing managers to support online and social content.
  • Provide logistical support for media events, press previews, and exhibition openings.


Financial Coordination

  • Monitor gallery budgets in collaboration with the Director and Finance team.
  • Track expenditures and assist with reconciliation of payments and reimbursements.
  • Support grant and fundraising activities through administrative coordination and record-keeping.

Student and Volunteer Coordination

  • Manage the scheduling and activities of student assistants or volunteers.
  • Support opportunities for student engagement in gallery research, curation, and programming.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts Administration, Fine Arts, Studio Arts, Art History, or Aallery/Museum Management or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Seven years of experience in arts administration including budget management and strategic planning.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in exhibition installation and design, curation of exhibits, and program development.
  • Experience with university procurement or financial systems.
  • Prior experience working in a gallery, museum, or cultural institution.
  • Knowledge of art handling, exhibition planning, and gallery event logistics.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, collaborative, and creative environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills; detail-oriented work habits; excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to inspire trust and work collegially and transparently with faculty members, staff, school and campus officers, university administrators, students, benefactors, and business partners.
  • Strong work ethic and resiliency.
  • Previous fundraising or grant experience a plus.
