This position supports sound financial management by overseeing key accounting functions, maintaining strong internal controls, and providing reliable financial reporting to leadership. By helping safeguard financial assets and improve accounting processes, the Accounting Manager contributes directly to operational effectiveness and the achievement of organizational goals. What You Will Do
- Manage daily cash operations including downloading bank activity, processing Positive Pay and ACH files, handling stop payments and payment inquiries, performing monthly bank reconciliations, and coding cash receipts such as insurance proceeds, refunds, asset sales, and advances. Maintain and safeguard bank accounts while minimizing financial risk.
- Oversee full-cycle Accounts Payable operations including voucher review and approval, vendor setup and maintenance, routing updates, manual check processing, payment release, vendor reconciliations, and preparation of 1099s. Reconcile open accounts payable to the General Ledger and maintain physical control of AP and payroll checks in accordance with internal controls.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Accounts Payable staff by providing guidance, documentation, training, and performance support.
- Administer fixed asset accounting including asset setup, monthly depreciation calculation and posting, reconciliation to the General Ledger, asset transfers and disposals, and preparation of fixed asset reports and projections. Coordinate laptop inventory with IT and support Tangible Business Property Tax inventory requirements.
- Support month-end close activities including reviewing and posting journal entries, preparing recurring entries, running financial trend reports, reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports to leadership and generate ad hoc financial analysis to support management, contracts, and site operations.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and assisting with required adjustments.
- Prepare and submit required regulatory and tax filings including the Annual Integrated Economic Survey, Tangible Business Property Tax filings, business license tax returns, Maryland Form 1, annual census reporting, and other state and local compliance reports.
- Process federal tax deposits and perform year-end reconciliations related to TSA 403(b) withdrawals.
- Provide leadership and guidance to Accounts Payable staff while promoting teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
