Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Software Engineering Intern!

Symetra's Internship Program for Summer 2026 is entirely remote - all interns will learn and work in a virtual setting. The internship duration is 12 weeks.

Summary

Software Engineering Intern solves business needs by building quality software with guidance from senior engineering team members.

Responsibilities



  • Develop secure, high quality, performant scalable code, using the required programming language and tools.


  • Assistin the design and development of software solutions under the guidance of senior engineers.


  • Participate inrequirementsdefinition, design walkthroughs, and code reviews


  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to coding standards.


  • Debugandtroubleshootsoftware issues, providingtimelyresolutions.


  • Define and perform unit testing of code. Support functional and regression testing efforts.


  • Work closely with senior engineers to enhance your technical skills and understanding of software development methodologies.


Qualifications:



  • Currently enrolled full-time and pursuing a Bachelor's or master's in computer science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experiencerequired


  • Programming experience with C#. Experience with other object-oriented languages like Java or Python.


  • In-depth knowledge of architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling)


  • Experience with Database technologies.


  • Hands-on experience building systems in one or more cloud providers - AWS, Azure, GCP


  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the SDLC (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations.


  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Developing analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
