Position Summary The Parker Lord APS Division is looking for a Process Engineer I with a chemical background. This opening is for our technical site in Cary, NC. This role is primarily in a laboratory and pilot plant environment, running and reporting on pilot-scale tests and batches of chemical adhesives. Secondarily, this role may directly and independently interface with manufacturing plants and travel domestically. This process engineer will be responsible for internal technical work, report communication, analysis of results, and solving chemical process engineering challenges. This position will be located in Cary, NC in a production pilot plant environment. Responsibilities Process Engineering Specific Duties: * Designing, running, and troubleshooting chemical pilot plant batches to manufacture and analyze chemical adhesives for new product scale-up projects. This role will take ownership of existing chemical equipment and new systems. * Interfaces with internal technical teams, external equipment suppliers, and manufacturing plants. General Duties: * Operate in a safe, high-quality, and ethical manner while following Parker Lord policies. * Able to collaboratively work as part of a multidisciplinary, global project team to develop and accomplish goals and objectives. * Routine and non-routine technical assignments of moderate to low complexity and variety; frequently make decisions independently. * Determine appropriate technical approach, follow accepted procedures, develop new procedures, and communicate conclusions/recommendations effectively. * Oversee engineering equipment, involved in the specification and purchase of new equipment. * Conduct training for staff as needed. * Support quality teams by investigating root causes, corrective actions, and test methods to address critical performance characteristics of chemical materials. * Communicates frequently and professionally via written and verbal analysis and results. * Technical lead on low complexity, short-term projects. Leads portions of projects as a team member. * May require travel up to 10% within the US. International trips are unlikely. Qualifications * Education Requirements: BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar with 1 year of work experience. Preferred experience with chemical adhesives, polymeric materials, or in a laboratory environment. * Possess strong attention to detail. * Ability to safely work in a chemical and mechanical laboratory environment. * Possess good written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to work effectively in a team environment. * Ability to apply basic statistics and interpret and communicate results. * Ability to utilize computerized equipment and computer software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, JMP, Minitab, and SAP. * Intermediate understanding and application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field. Beginning to learn other related disciplines. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Intermediate knowledge of key products and/or industry knowledge - customer application, failure analysis. Internal equipment expert on multiple medium and/or high complexity processes or equipment * Track record of solving non-routine technical problems of expanded scope and intermediate complexity. Design and execution of moderate investigations and troubleshooting, intermediate data analysis, and intermediate report generation). Intermediate understanding and utilization of engineering tools, methods, and processes (FMEA, process audits, Troubleshooting, etc.) * Visual acuity to read and understand chemical container labels. * Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
