GENERAL FUNCTION: Supervises and performs visual and physical inspection, sampling and testing to ensure products and materials conform to established standards of quality, appearance, and other requirements. Involves the use of various kinds of gauges and measuring instruments. Supervises Shop Inspectors. Works under the general direction of the Quality Control Manager.

TYPICAL DUTIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.

  • Selects, instructs, assigns and evaluates inspectors and technicians.
  • Responsible for day to day "Correct" time charging.
  • Responsible for daily task (Craft/Customer Call-outs, meetings, etc.)
  • Implements operating procedures and recommends new or revised procedures.
  • Inspects and supervises inspection of in-process, finished.
  • Tests materials and products with various measuring instruments, devices, as appropriate (e.g. meters gauges, CAM gauges, bridge gauges, etc).
  • Serves as contact for and accompanies outside inspectors.
  • Maintains records of all testing and results.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Considerable knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering and practices as applicable to division products.
  • Considerable knowledge of welding processes.
  • Good knowledge of measuring devices and tools and the ability to instruct inspectors on the proper operation.
  • Ability to supervise and achieve quality assurance programs that ensure product integrity.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of personnel, customers, and regulatory agents.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Minimum of 3 years' supervisory experience in the shipbuilding and/or marine industry, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which results in the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
