Clinical Educator
Full time, 4x10 shifts
Reporting to the Medical Laboratory Science Program Director, the Clinical Educator serves as a primary educator for hospital-based Medical Laboratory Science and related education programs within the Department of Pathology. This role supports a growing and evolving hospital-based education infrastructure and contributes to instructional excellence, program development, and workforce pipeline initiatives.
70% - Instruction & Education:
Working collaboratively as a generalist member of an interdisciplinary instructional team, this role delivers high-quality didactic and laboratory instruction across pathology and clinical laboratory disciplines within a dedicated hospital training facility.
Core responsibilities include:
*Deliver lecture-based, laboratory, and case-based instruction across MLS and related pathology disciplines.
*Facilitate hands-on teaching laboratories, skills-based activities, and applied learning sessions.
*Develop and update curriculum materials, lesson plans, laboratory exercises, and instructional resources aligned with program competencies and accreditation standards.
*Assess student learning through formative and summative evaluation methods, including practical assessments, examinations, and structured feedback.
*Support learner success through review sessions, academic coaching, and remediation activities as needed.
*Integrate interdisciplinary and systems-based concepts to promote comprehensive understanding of laboratory medicine.
*Maintain instructional content that reflects current clinical practice, regulatory standards, and evolving laboratory technologies.
*Participate in faculty collaboration, curriculum planning, and continuous quality improvement initiatives related to instruction.
30% Departmental Service: Program Growth, Outreach, and Workforce Development
In addition to core educational responsibilities, the Clinical Educator supports the growth and continued expansion of hospital-based Medical Laboratory Science and pathology education programs. This role contributes to outreach, recruitment, and workforce development initiatives aligned with institutional priorities. Responsibilities include:
*Support expansion of the Department of Pathology education portfolio in collaboration with program leadership.
*Contribute to community outreach and pipeline programming, including educational activities for high school, college, and early-career learners.
*Participate in student recruitment activities, including information sessions, outreach events, and engagement with prospective applicants.
*Assist with admissions and candidate evaluation processes as assigned.
*Contribute to workforce development initiatives that support preparation, advancement, and retention of laboratory professionals.
*Support educational programming for practicing laboratory professionals and advanced learners, including targeted review or skills-based sessions.
*Assist in planning and implementation of new educational initiatives, pilot programs, or expanded training pathways.
*Support experiential learning, field exposure, and institutional partnership activities.
*Contribute to program improvement efforts through review of learner engagement, program outcomes, and emerging workforce needs.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Medical Laboratory Science required or Bachelor's Degree Clinical Laboratory Sciences required or Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required

Licenses and Credentials
Medical Technologist (ASCP) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) required

Experience

The Laboratory Instructor must be a medical laboratory professional who:

  • A minimum of three years of work experience as a MLS in a clinical laboratory.

  • Previous experience in clinical hematology and clinical microbiology roles.

  • Has experience training and precepting staff or students.

  • Has familiarity with requirements related to SOP development and training.

  • Has maintained an inventory in a clinical laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of accreditation standards and regulatory requirements for MLS programs.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Experience in curriculum development and instructional design.

  • Prior experience in medical laboratory education or training.

  • Familiarity with current trends and advancements in medical laboratory science.
